Logan Mitcheltree is Home (Update on Missing Autistic Boy, Body Found)
The Question Fairy ^ | Dec. 21, 2004 | Becki Snow

Posted on 12/21/2004 11:27:59 AM PST by dandelion

Somewhere, in the arms of a starry winter night, a little 9-year-old boy is resting. His mind is filled with the new and wonderful, led on to things he has always wanted to see, things that were always just beyond the fence. But behind him, just on the other side of the adventure, people are searching, praying, looking for him. For out in the wonderment, beneath the stars, Logan Mitcheltree is missing.

The runners and the dreamers never understand what it is that makes us fear so for them; they only know that the world is a marvelous, moving place, ever beckoning to them, ever denied them. Logan, who does not speak words, and cannot find his way home, is gone on an adventure and no one of the hundreds of searchers can find him.

According to The Williamsport Sun-Gazette:

Logan, of 1195 Main St., was last seen running east at Market Street and Southern Avenue at around 5 p.m. Saturday, borough Police Chief Rexford Lowmiller said.

He was wearing a long-sleeved gray shirt, blue jeans and brown slippers. He is 4 feet tall, weighs 55 pounds, has short, reddish-blond hair and dark brown eyes.

If it is possible to bring Logan home, after all the bitter cold and the time that has passed, it will be because there are still miracles in the world. Since miracles do exist, we may hope for them and pray as we are called to pray. But the hands of God are often the hands of man -

And someone, somewhere, has seen a little boy. Someone, somewhere, heard a noise, or saw a shadow, or checked when their dog barked that night. Someone, somewhere, has some knowledge of Logan; they only do not know that they have a tiny piece of this mystery. They themselves, unsure of what they saw, may be unwilling to call, to be wrong, to be unsure that perhaps something precious passed by in the night.

It is our hope that these hesitant witnesses will call anyway and tell their little story. Let the others decide if it is Logan or not - just call, and if they are wrong, it is no shame. If they are right, it may be the key to the homecoming of Logan. Someone, somewhere, has seen Logan, and they just don't know it yet.

But children do not always come home to us, to the parents who love them. For the runners, the dreamers, the just curious little children whose last thought was of a mystic place just beyond the fence, just over the hill, just down by the river... there is still a homecoming. Though it is not the one we pray for, it is a homecoming none the less -

Somewhere, as a little boy looked up and the world was sparkling colder, he at last saw what he had always dreamed. Just beyond the stars a new and vibrant horizon, worlds unexplored, and a Companion for a New Journey beckoned. He at last saw what he had always dreamed of seeing, and satisfied with this earth, he was lifted from the arms of the night and into the Arms of God.

May God bless these little Explorers, and protect them; may Logan be brought home to those who love him. This we pray, In Jesus name, to the God who created the runners and the dreamers...

:UPDATE: The body of Logan Mitcheltree was found Tuesday morning, on a gated mountain road a mile and a half from his house. He was heading up the mountain.

Little Logan is beholding our King in His Beauty now, Marvelling at the Wonders our Lord has Prepared for him in our Heavenly Father's House.

Tearful Prayers continuing for the heartbroken family, including that He will Bestow upon them His Grace, that they will have the Peace-giving Hope of seeing Logan again Someday.

How sad. I have an autistic grandchild about the same age. It is his parents' greatest fear that he will escape the house, or the school someday. Without generalizing too much, many autistic children seem to have a need to wander away, despite parental precuations. And they can be very quick. RIP, Logan.

That's true. I've over here crying my eyes out because this little boy reminds me so much of my autistic brother when he was that age. He got out the house more than once.

One time the people in the neighborhood went searching for him, and my dad found him in some stranger's house watching TV. He'd just wandered into someone's house and sat down in front of the television. This was back in the 60s in the deep south when it wasn't uncommon for people to keep their doors open.

I sincerely believe that an autistic boy of Logan's age is innocent and sinless in a perfect way and that his eternal calling and election is certain. I hope that his family knows that as well and takes comfort in that knowledge.

Prayers and blessings to the family to which he was sent and that cared for him during his brief stay here on earth...

Prayers for the soul of Logan. May God heal his family's broken heart.

(My almost 6 year old son is named Logan also. I would be totally destroyed if this happened to him.)
