Pivx's Qwik-Fix disables ALL dangerous Active X controls by default so hackers can't exploit vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer. And of course it helps to put all malicious sites into the Restricted Zone via IE-Spyad or if you have the Agnis blocklist, you can export them into your Norton Personal Firewall Ad Blocking section. Practice safe computing and the phishers will be left out in the cold. Merry Christmas, every one!

I can understand someone being sceptical about FF,; it's clearly a work in progress, open source, and only at 1.0.

I don't understand loyalty to Internet Explorer. It is a microcosm of much of Microsoft itself: fat, dumb, and happy.

There are many alternative browsers, and FF is only one. I use more than one.

However. Your post reminds me a DU thread. Brace yourself, because this is cutting-edge ridicule:

BUSH IS HITLER!

You're welcome. How'd it work? You need to restart Firefox to get the full benefit of the changes.

...How'd it work? ...

Won't know until next week. I'm on a T1 at work. I'm off work until after Christmas.

Nevermind that those ads are for the Mozilla Suite, not Firefox...

I agree the ads are in poor taste, but guess what? They aren't used any more, if they ever were. The Mozilla symbol now is the red dinosaur, not the red star.

As for the political leanings of the development team, you can read their blogs and figure this out. Out of the known political leanings, two are Christians, possibly conservatives, and two are far-left lib atheists.

Out of all the reasons I've heard not to use Firefox, this has to rank as one of the oddest.

i actually haven't used windows or internet explorer in years. I use linux and Konqueror as my browser. I think people ought to know what they are supporting. I have simply posted images and statements from the mozilla page to show how crass they are.

Version numbers don't mean much, as they're all relative. Version 5.5 of one program could have less features or polish than version 2.1b of another program. Unfortunately, because people assume version 3.0 of one program is better than version 1.5 of another program, version numbers have turned into a marketing strategy.

Firefox at 1.0 is still better than Internet Explorer at version 6 SP2, and Firefox at 2.0 will be better than Internet Explorer at 7.0 when Longhorn comes out.

Firefox displays pages according to W3C standards. It's the web pages that are screwed, not Firefox.

As for webpage development, Mozilla has you covered. You can use the HTML editor in the Mozilla Suite, or download nvu.

Oh, yes. FF is better than IE by an order of magnitude, IMO. Still, it's not unusual for me to find pages that FF doesn't load very well - text overlapping into other text and/or images. This I almost never see with IE.

I toggle between full and partial screen views frequently, and FF 1.0 on my system often has its menus leaking into toolbars. When this happens, the only way to toggle is to use F11, because the minimize and maximize buttons in the upper left-hand corner become nonfunctional.

Minor quirks, but lately I'm using Opera as well as FF. I know it's based on IE code and subject to the same security issues, but it's very fast, and I like many of its features. I don't like the fact that "buying" it is only an annual subscription but I believe I will see FF's quirks go away in time.

Microsoft has good reason to worry about an open source browser that outperforms IE. They can't buy it; they can only download and reverse-engineer it into their own lagging systems.

That's the fault of the webpage, not Firefox. They coded the page for IE, which doesn't support W3C standards. More and more pages are becoming standards-compatible, though.

Sounds like a bug caused by a bad installation. Did you install 1.0 as an upgrade from a previous release?

Technically, there's nothing to reverse-engineer, since the code is freely-available. Microsoft will lift the ideas rather than the code. Look for IE7 to have tabbed browsing, among other things. Still won't be any good, though.

[Microsoft] coded the page for IE, which doesn't support W3C standards.

I was surprised to hear this at first, then I remembered it's MS.

Did you install 1.0 as an upgrade from a previous release?

Yes. I've reinstalled now, and hope it's a fix.

Look for IE7 to have tabbed browsing, among other things. Still won't be any good, though.

That's a sure bet. Opera has tabbed browsing. I've been using Opera less than a month but I can tell it's far superior to IE for my uses.

Thanks for your advice, Terpfen.

All apologies - I assumed those images were created by you or someone else who disliked FF. They don't say much for whoever made them.

FYI--the ideal way to upgrade from older versions of Firefox is to uninstall the old version, then reinstall the new one, then start a new profile. I've found that profiles carry over nicely between versions, but there can be a lot of bugs that arise from just installing over a previous version. That's why I asked if you upgraded from an older Firefox.

Glad I could help you.

"Downloading Communism (377 Kb)"

Yes, Firefox is a community project.

But, talk about taking yourself too seriously, and in all the wrong ways...

Tell the whole story. A couple of those images come from a Russian fanboi site. (I discovered them last week while looking for startup screens).

Yes, there are lots of people who use Mozilla or Microsoft, upstanding human beings and hippie garbage alike.
