I ran several searches, and I was surprised that this article didn't show up. I think Cal makes great points.
The UN is a humanistic institution (one of its architects, Alger Hiss, was a Communist spy.) Because the UN is based on the humanistic proposition that human beings can get together and talk, and work out all their problems, it has failed, and it will always fail.
The only reason I can see to stay in the UN is if the political flak we would take for leaving is greater than the political flak we are taking while staying.
Our War on Terror has revealed the UN and world diplomatic community to be spineless and morally corrupt.

We should have been out long ago. Let 'em move to the Sudan.

Let's relocate the UN to Somalia and see how quickly they clean it up. Then perhaps, let's send the envirals to Mars to see how quickly they stop global warming on that planet.

In the U.N., the United States is opposed by dictatorial regimes who are treated as our equals.
We are painfully aware of it and it's outrageous!
Paul Weyrich, who heads the conservative Free Congress Foundation, writes in his Web commentary, "The U.N. now is dominated by nations of the Third World whose values are so distant from our own that they won't even object to the genocide occurring in the Sudan." Weyrich says he opposes any form of "world government" because, "It would only mean that a cabal who hates our religions and our way of life could gang up on the U.S.A. No good could possibly come from such an institution."
Exactly right!

Yes, and the OFF scandal has revealed how human suffering is less important than lining their own pockets.

I certainly hope by this (world diplomatic community) you are including the US Congress and Senate, the State Department, the FRC, the USSC and the resident of the White House.
If you aren't, then you need to open your eyes a whole lot wider! Getting the full view means looking at the entire 360 degree picture.

The only reason I can see to stay in the UN is if the political flak we would take for leaving is greater than the political flak we are taking while staying. There is no need to "get out" and take any political flack. We should help establish an organization of free nations and defer to it on decisions that affect the world. We can just ignore the UN as the bunch or corrupt dictators it is.

Combine the corrupt and useless UN with the brain dead CRATS, we couldn't be in more danger of civil war in the US than now. We could start by dumping the UN and kick it out of the US. Then we could concentrate on those rotten organization like the ACLU and show them for what they are.

Cal Thomas isn't thinking clearly on this issue. We should simply veto everything at the UN in order to shut it down.
Leaving the UN would give up our veto, which is precisely what the liberals want (so that they can show how the U.S. is in violation of countless new UN resolutions - "More Than Hussein" they would chant).

Should have gotten out of the UN years ago. We should at least cut off all UN funding and make them leave US soil.

This is also in "Townhall.com." This issue may be reaching a "tipping point" and the politicians will eventually pull the plug on funding of the U.N. and with it the U.N. will collapse. I certainly hope sooner rather than later. It is not a force for good and inevitably is a force for evil. Time to shut it down.
