Jesus born in Bethlehem is news for many

Jesus born in Bethlehem is news for many By Jonathan Petre, Religion Correspondent

The Telegraph

Nearly a third of Britons do not know that Jesus was born in Bethlehem, according to new research published yesterday.

A similar proportion is unaware that Jesus was Jewish or that the first man to make an appearance in the Bible is Adam. Fewer than two thirds could identify the special table normally found at the east end of a church as the altar.

But a striking 85 per cent knew that the event Christians believe occurred on the first Easter Day was the Resurrection.

The findings emerged in a survey which showed that younger people are more ignorant of the basic facts of Christianity than older ones, with the over 50-year-old group scoring the most highly.

The findings of the survey conducted by YouGov will underline the fears of many Church leaders that Britain is increasingly secular and can no longer be confidently described as Christian.

Wowee. That's pretty incredible. They really are pretty darn secular if supposed Christians can't even identify the basic facts surrounding Jesus Christ.

I'm stunned.

Worse than just secular -- they're plain bloody ignorant.

It will be that way HERE, too, if we don't
take steps to deter the inroads the ACLU

in our schools.

One must wonder to whom they implore to save their Queen when they sing their national anthem.

So, who wants to be a missionary to England?

"Fewer than two thirds could identify the special table normally found at the east end of a church as the altar."

So 1/3 didn't know where Jesus was born , but almost 2/3'rds of them knew about this table thing? Does this mean we have to rearrange my church?

That's about right. Easter is about 3X more important than Christmas.

This has nothing to do with schools. This has everything to do with the elimination of the Bible in our lives. Churches are beginning to focus on feel-good praise music rather than educating church members about Christ. I see commercials for large churches all the time, not one of them mentioning Christ, but focusing on fellowship.

If we're going to be Christians, we need to understand and know the focus of the religion.

The same can be said about the ignorance of many American people when it comes to knowing basic historical and constitutional facts.

At least the most important element of Christianity hasn't been forgotten.

The findings of the survey conducted by YouGov will underline the fears of many Church leaders that Britain is increasingly secular and can no longer be confidently described as Christian.

In other words, the government can now point to the survey and justify the islamification of Great Britain.

No, trust me, I'm currently living in the south of England -- they ARE ignorant and the Anglican churchs are empty all the time while the CAtholic and Baptist churchs are brimming with people, families, children, young adults etc. even on weekdays. Most Anglicans go to church only for weddings and funerals

But mostly England is a godless country where the young don't want to study either -- all they want to do is grow up to become celebrities. Pre-pubescent girls want to grow up to become 'glamour models' (a.k.a porn stars) like Jordan.
