Grandma Fern's Hermits:
-1 cup seedless raisins
-1 cup chopped nuts
-2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
-1 tsp. salt
-1/2 tsp. baking soda
-1 tsp. cinnamon
-1/2 tsp. nutmeg
-1 cup butter (softened)
-1 sup sugar
-3 eggs
*Grease baking sheets, lightly. Start oven 10 minutes before baking, set to around 400 degrees.
*Chop nuts
*Mix flour with next four ingredients, stirring well with a spoon
*Cream butter until shiny, add suger in 2 portions, creaming well.
*Add eggs one at a time, beating until fluffy after each.
*Add flour in 2 or 3 portions, mixing until smooth after each.
*Stir in raisins and nuts until well mixed.
(Batter WILL be thick, believe me, I've mixed it.....:)
*Drop 2 inches apart by heaping teaspoonsful onto baking sheet, the make into neat rounds.
*Bake 10 minutes, or until nicely browned. Please do not burn them! (Remember, these are words of advice from my mom's original recipe..LOL)
*Remove at once from baking sheet to cake racks to cool.
*Store in container with tight-fitting cover with sheets of waxed paper between layers. I don't use waxed paper, I just make sure they are cool before storing.....(again my Mom's sage advice....)
I hope all who try this recipe enjoy the cookies as much as Daddy did.
