I think what gridlock meant was that sexual attraction alone is insufficient to sustain a long-term relationship.

I think what gridlock meant was that sex makes a strong bond with your first partner. That breakup with your first sexual partner is most painful and difficult (assuming there was a relationship to break from). Then, with each successive partner, the bond is less strong and the breakup less painful (easier).
I don't think GL was applying the duct tape theory to marriage. Although I do think that marriage is much more fun if you keep a case of duct tape on hand at all times ;)
