Hardee's Monster Burger Creates Uproar (pics)
Yahoo ^

Posted on 12/07/2004 10:27:12 AM PST by Next_Time_NJ

A Monster Thickburger bought by a reporter Monday at a St. Louis Hardee's was presented appealingly enough, wrapped neatly in light paper and standing a whopping 2 1/2 inches tall inside a box. But the double-pattied behemoth, bought as part of combo with French fries and a drink, stretched the mouth and stomach, too much for the reporter to absorb in one sitting.

I'd rather eat 40 White Castle burgers.

40 'sliders' ??

My Doctor prescribed 5 of those to me the day before my lower GI series.

They worked.

Or a Wendy's Classic Triple with Cheese - no lettuce, pickles, or tomatoes and with extra mayo.

*yum*

Beef. Lots of beef.

Thankfully, there is Stacker 2 - maybe the new Secretary of HHS will lift the ephedra ban so I can get more of it.

"At 1,420 calories and 107 grams of fat, Hardee's Monster Thickburger couldn't escape notice in these diet-conscious times."

"The combo packs more calories and fat than most people should get in a day."

This is all just more "junk science". No one can prove that eating grotesquely fat food is bad for a person's health. I don't care how many studies are conducted - it's all just bogus. I read somewhere that those "studies" about the negative health effects of fatty food, excessive drinking, smoking, sniffing gasoline, injecting heroine into veins, shooting yourself in the head, etc. -- I read that those are all funded by (insert group I dislike here) as a conspiracy to manipulate us and turn us into Europeans.

"I find their ads offensive."

I think I have seen a woman riding a mechanical bull while eating one of those burgers ad that is REALLY offensive. It makes me feel like I should take a shower after viewing it. It's the ads on television that have probably contributed most to my ceasing to watch. You can avoid all the programs you want, but the ads get sleazier and sleazier ( not to mention stupider and stupider) and you never know when they are coming.

I never knew a reporter who couldn't wolf down anything that was put in front of him, just so long as it was free.

Where I'm from we call those White Castle burgers "sliders" for a reason that may be obvious to you.

Wow! Watch out arteries! Here comes the plaque and early death. Hardy's efforts to control population may work.

I'm in Georgia and have grown up with Krystals. Maybe one day I'll have a chance to try a White Castle, but I've heard from others that Krystal is better. Dangit...now I've got to know...lol

How come the ones you get in the store never look like the publicity photos? The ones you actually get look like they were run over by a truck that was leaking oil.

Krystals are good, but a poor substitute for the mighty White Castle. Luckily, I live in the area that has both.

Personally, I prefer Krystals (WC makes you put the mustard on yourself!), but that's mainly for the other stuff on the menu; chili-cheese pups, chicken Krystals, chili-cheese fries, and Vidalia onion rings. I love them both though. It was hell living in DC, which has neither. It seems to me, although I'm not in the fast food business (so what do I know?), that one of these two glorious franchises could do very well in a market that doesn't have a tiny hamburger joint...

BTW, if you've never seen it, the History Channel did a very interesting piece on White Castle in their History of American Eats. They'll rerun it at some point.

LOL You're the one that commented that you were offended by it. Just wondering why. I think it is pretty slick . . it's subtle enough to be a sexual reference to those who want to see that and a girl riding a bull to those who want to see that. It's kinda like those inkblot tests.

White Castle's itty-bitty burgers have been a godsend after a night of bar hopping and pub crawling, moonpie.

They fill you up... Then clean you out!

Southerners have told me Krystal is better. Northerners have told me White Castle is better. I think it depends on which you grow up near and become addicted to. Take it from a "border stater" who grew up on both, White Castle is a bit better, but definitely harder on the digestive system.
