President Bush withheld support for embattled U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan yesterday and demanded the world body produce a "full and fair" accounting of the Iraq oil-for-food scandal. The United States broke with other nations on the U.N. Security Council, including Britain, Russia, France, Germany and China, which announced their support for Annan.

Meanwhile, in Albany, the Republican-led state Senate dealt a severe blow to a U.N. plan to build a 35-story building on nearby parkland, tabling a bill that would have started the process.
The United Nations "has evolved into an anti-Israel, anti-Semitic group of petty, sniping bigots who are pursuing an anti-freedom, anti-democratic, anti-American agenda," said state Sen. Serphin Maltese, a conservative Republican from Queens.
"To authorize an expansion of their headquarters would be a slap in the face of American citizens."
Meanwhile, GOP Reps. Vito Fossella, Peter King, and Sue Kelly called a press conference in front of U.N. headquarters, endorsing legislation calling for cutting 10 percent of U.S. funding for the United Nations unless it cooperates with investigators probing the oil-for-food scandal.

Thank you and others who noticed. I watched President Bush say this yesterday---aired shortly after he said it.
I posted immediately on a thread that President Bush had just issued a strong statement and then my jaw dropped as the seemingly nice but apparently dimwitted Rick Fulbaum on Fox News characterized it as "The President refusing to weigh in" on the issue of whether Annan should resign.
I was annoyed with Fulbaum, as it was plain as day to me that the UN is going to be held to account here and President Bush was clear that they owe that accountability to we, the American taxpaying citizens.
Way to go W!!! Kofi SUCKS!
But make sure they pay off all their parking tickets first, before they leave.
Actually, the NY legislature could help a lot just by saying they can't even consider taking up the UN request until the OFF investigation has been completed.

Welcome to my nightmare
I think you're gonna like it
I think you're gonna feel like you belong
A nocturnal vacation
Unnecessary sedation
You want to feel at home 'cause you belong
Welcome to my nightmare
Welcome to my breakdown
I hope I didn't scare you
That's just the way we are when we come down
We sweat and laugh and scream here
'cuz life is just a dream here
You know inside you feel right at home here
Welcome to my breakdown
Whoa
You're welcome to my nightmare
Yeah
Welcome to my nightmare
I think you're gonna like it
I think you're gonna feel that you belong
We sweat laugh and scream here
'cuz life is just a dream here
You know inside you feel right at home here
Welcome to my nightmare
Welcome to my breakdown
Yeah
Excellent news! I really like it when republicans don't roll over.
Unfortunately, we can't let'm leave until AFTER we get the oil-for-food program exposed and accounted for. Even after that if we make them leave who knows what will go on. If they will do this kind of crap whilst picnicing in our back yard just think of what they would do from Paris.
My 2 cents would be to cut funding by 90% and be the most squeaky wheel that we can possibly be from within the UN
Secondly, we should charge them sky-high rent for that facility in NY. Mostly, if they don't like it here or what we stand for get the hell out.
Here's a scenario that just occurred to me. Kofi so shames the UN, that the media are going to start pushing the idea that only one man can save the UN....Bill Clinton.
Don't Blow Your Mind
I said one day I'd find the game
Well now you know I'm not insane
You tried to take me for a ride
Now all you feel is suicide
We're two of a kind
Take what you can find
But don't blow your mind away
You led me to another life
Of work and pain and sacrifice
I broke away from you somehow
And look who's goin' through it now
We're two of a kind
Take what you can find
But don't blow your mind away
So now you know the reason why
I'm laughing here and why you cry
Cuz you don't mean a thing no more
And I'm just like I was before
We should cut off water and power to the UN building.
Way to go!

Except Clinton will probably end up implicated.

I think I just found my frontrunner to be on the 2008 Presidential ticket. :-)
Am I the only thinking: (in Beach Boys voice) Everybody's gone Serphin, Serphin USA.....
What a quote from Senator Maltese. So succinct and accurate...
Very good.
I agree with this sentence and I'm glad a politician has the guts to say it.
It probably doesn't help that he appeared to be trying to help defeat Bush in the election.
