Thinking about it, Bond has this way of every decade or so turning up as a ten-years-younger man. So now, 42 years after Dr. No (1962), he's going to turn up as a ten-years-younger black guy.

Because 007 isn't actually a real guy- it's an identity adopted by a series of British super-agents.

I've been a fan of the bond genre since 1962, and I read all the Ian Fleming books as a teenager in the 60's. And I've followed all the different Bonds, so here's my carefully considered opinion: Hugh Jackman would be the best Bond!

Dalton's problem was that he is a Shakespearean-trained actor who tried to play a cartoon character straight. It was a death-knell for Bond, who inhabits a universe constructed just for him, where the cards always (almost always) fall his way. Connery and the rest have understood that Bond must be played with toungue firmly in cheeck. Dalton didn't get it, and almost killed the series.

Agreed. One of life's Dirty Little Secrets is how many black Africans cannot stand the stereotypical African-American. I've met Kenyans, for example, who spoke English with Brit accents, attended English style prep schools in Kenya and who were outraged by the "brothers" crap.

And JJ won't let us know that -- I'm not black but I think the antics of the rap stars or rap-pimps or Eddie Murphy or Will SMith are very demeaning to blacks, no better than boot-polish faced minstrels.
