Well, since we are on the subject, the only reason (in my opinion) that the election was anywhere as close as it turned out to be, was because of the incredible kid glove treatment Kerry got from the Media, and because of the hammering away that the Media did on every single negative thing they could find. How else to explain weeks and weeks of lead stories about Muslim prisoners with underwear on their heads? Every single US soldier that was killed in action was led off with the intonement of "The 763rd fatality since the declaration of the end of hostilities...The 764th fatality...." etc.
THANK GOD FOR THE SWIFT BOAT VETS-THEY PULLED PRESIDENT BUSH THROUGH. If it had not been for the constant hammering of the MSM, Bush would have won by 15 points, minimum.
As to the character of Kerry-I think a paraphrased quote from Richard Nixon (Speaking of Alger Hiss, I believe) describes it best: "If Americans knew the true nature of this man, they would boil him in oil."
Of course, that is my opinion, yours may vary.
This is not new. Same thing happened with the MSM deifying Jimmy Carter in 1980, Walter Mondale in 1984, Dukakis in 1988, and Clinton in 1992 & '96, and Gore in 2000, and now Kerry in 2004. They NEVER allow a close inspection of these guys, their real history, or their conduct and proposals. Kerry got basically a free ride also from the fact, that for the first time, the GOP candidate virtually made no attacks on the RAT that had to be reported by the MSM. Everyone else was expected to carry the water for GWB. But he apparently thought he had to portray himself as "above the fray" or some such nonsense. Thank God Reagan never believed that, and he got into the rough and tumble.
