US Dollar has sunk to record lows against Euro

The United States’ trade deficit is soaring and the once high-flying dollar has sunk to record lows against Europe’s common currency.

The dollar’s record low against the euro coincided with the government’s report that the United States was running a trade deficit through September at annual rate of 592 billion dollars. That compares with last year’s record 496 dollars billion. As a result, the country is having to borrow almost 600 billion dollars from overseas this year to pay for the imported cars, televisions and other items Americans are buying.

He initiated hostilities when called on the carpet about how, precisely, the U.S. industrial base can be recovered since the Chinese will not cooperate in his hypothetical industrial reversal [after the U.S. currency crash].

You have yet to give a convincing model for how the Chinese will prevent it from happening. And you, BTW, started off with the slanderous statements. That is "initiating hostilities."

I am of the opinion he should never be allowed to post on China threads if he can't be civil.

For some odd reason, I am reminded of the pot and the kettle. I must meditate on this...

Mister Ross, if you lack the courage to ping the subject of your innuendo and gossip to your remarks about him, it says much about you.

None of it flattering.

If you cannot make your points without hysterical hyperbole about other poster's motives, followed by more hysterical hyperbole demanding that your enemies be forbidden from speaking, then I of the opinion that you should never be allowed to post on China threads--or anywhere else.

Tango Sierra, Delta Alpha. You are both the pot and the kettle, and an amnesiac besides.

Ring any bells, Delta Alpha?

As for "models" the Chinese are making it right in front of your scale-covered eyes. They are relocating all the best Western manufacturing plant to their country. They simply have to refuse to trade with us. I.e., the shoe will be on the other foot.

GOP1900 thinks we can reconstitute some of our plant if hostilities break out, by using friendly alternate Western countries for the machine tools and capital, although the dissipation of the trained work force does give him pause. That same work force would be required to reassemble plants. Chicken-egg situation.

And you are still clearly just a committed apologist. And the slanderous one at that.

No need to ping you. I knew you couldn't just lurk any longer. Too bad.

That wasn't any sort of personal attack. It was merely an objective statement of fact about you and your ideas. You wanted a hyper-detailed answer without paying for my (extensive) labor to produce it--that's being a Delta Alpha. You, on the other hand, tend to accuse those who think your ideas are silly of being traitors, and demand that they be silenced. That, good sir, is slanderous. It's also wonderfully leftist.

As for "models" the Chinese are making it right in front of your scale-covered eyes. They are relocating all the best Western manufacturing plant to their country. They simply have to refuse to trade with us. I.e., the shoe will be on the other foot.

Key part bolded for hysterical laughter.

China's lost more manufacturing jobs than we have.

As for refusing to trade with us...they will have a small problem. Namely, once they've crashed the world economy, the rest of the world will feel this amazing urge to do something rather rash...like lobbing nukes at China (starving people have this nasty tendency to discard rationality and act like Delta Alphas).

Assuming that the ChiComs are actually doing as you describe (moving all production to China--snicker)...long before they achieve that goal, China will be reaping the joys of having fifty million young men wandering around with no prospect of getting a socially acceptable mate (the Chinese have a weird racial purity thing). Read some of George Gilder's early stuff (i.e., before he became a wannabe-technogeek) about men, women, and the civilizing influence of the latter. Without said influence, men tend to become agents of entropy. You can't socialize 'em in the army--the army can make basically good men better, but it can't fix bad men, and there's too many anyway--so they'll have a gang-banger culture every bit as nasty as that found in Compton, California. There's already parts of Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Beijing itself where the cops don't try to patrol or make arrests without a reinforced infantry company along for backup.

I also don't think we can confidently speculate how the "zero-hour" scenario will actually play out (especially as I am not about to divulge our best counterstrike on an open forum). However, we can try and discern their likeliest strategy... they are amassing a lot of the best cards in the poker match, when they started out with nothing. But we can make certain assumptions based on the moves they are making from both deployments and logistical prepositioning.

We can expect that when they make their move, it will be lightning swift. With as little warning as possible. And it will be ruthless. Hence nuclear. Their own version of shock and awe. That is in all their military literature of late.

Thus, it is likely that they will coordinate the confrontation...so that there is a simultaneous assault on both South Korea and Taiwan. Meantime, full corrupt pressure will be put on their Panamanian lackeys to block U.S. military transport through the Canal Zone. And if that fails, there will be "accidental" sabotage of the locks. It is possible that Colin Powell failed to appreciate the threat there, eh? And it is also possible that "anonymous" ballistic or cruise missile EMP devices could disrupt U.S. C4I at a propitious moment.

The combined effect of whatever they intend to do would be to produce a military fait accomplice'. One such that the U.S. literally is paralyzed until the subjugations are accomplished. With South Korea and Taiwan "off the table", the Chinese would indeed be able to strangle the U.S. from reconstitution of its lost industry. From that tactical advantage, they would be able to thwart any "Normandy" style rescues.

They could, using their combined military and economic extortion, likely bring Japan to its knees, and attempt to coerce it into neutrality or satellite status. I think we are agreed that in this scenario Japan and Western Europe are the only likely avenues of "re-industrialization" aid. Meanwhile, with socialist governments in China's orbit in South America, from Venezuela to Brazil we can expect some kind of disruptions from that quarter to be coordinated.

Poohbah makes a big deal out of the disproportionate number of young men without prospects in China's demographics. Rather than making China risk averse, however, it goes the other way. This factor just makes Bejing all the more likely to "go for it" and conscript the entire lot of them not necessary for their industry, and use them as cannon fodder for their occupations.

We have to remember, Paul, that Vincente Fox is working overtime to cement relations with Iran. Then, along with the Panama Canal and Cuba, we have Venezuela.

Unfortunately we are surrounded and about to be checkmated unless we do something so spectacular that it will take enough time for ALL our enemies to catch their breaths and then another spectacular strike that will put them all in a stupor.

It must be something that is so astounding and something that would effect our worst enemies simultaneously.

I don't think our government is capable of that kind of quick and concisive thought. The politicos are so wrapped up in political correctness: kissing the muslims, dancing with the Russkies, massaaging Mexico and Canada, that they wouldn't have time to do something so drastic that it would change the threat posed by so many nations and peace would indeed reign even though most of the enemy nations would be in ruins.

Well, since we are on the subject, the only reason (in my opinion) that the election was anywhere as close as it turned out to be, was because of the incredible kid glove treatment Kerry got from the Media, and because of the hammering away that the Media did on every single negative thing they could find. How else to explain weeks and weeks of lead stories about Muslim prisoners with underwear on their heads? Every single US soldier that was killed in action was led off with the intonement of "The 763rd fatality since the declaration of the end of hostilities...The 764th fatality...." etc.

THANK GOD FOR THE SWIFT BOAT VETS-THEY PULLED PRESIDENT BUSH THROUGH. If it had not been for the constant hammering of the MSM, Bush would have won by 15 points, minimum.

As to the character of Kerry-I think a paraphrased quote from Richard Nixon (Speaking of Alger Hiss, I believe) describes it best: "If Americans knew the true nature of this man, they would boil him in oil."

Of course, that is my opinion, yours may vary.

This is not new. Same thing happened with the MSM deifying Jimmy Carter in 1980, Walter Mondale in 1984, Dukakis in 1988, and Clinton in 1992 & '96, and Gore in 2000, and now Kerry in 2004. They NEVER allow a close inspection of these guys, their real history, or their conduct and proposals. Kerry got basically a free ride also from the fact, that for the first time, the GOP candidate virtually made no attacks on the RAT that had to be reported by the MSM. Everyone else was expected to carry the water for GWB. But he apparently thought he had to portray himself as "above the fray" or some such nonsense. Thank God Reagan never believed that, and he got into the rough and tumble.

Here is a great illustration:

An Apple iPod costs $300. A BMW 530i is $45,000. So we trade 1500 iPods for a BMW. If we devalue the dollar by 33%, then we must exchange 2000 iPods for the BMW. How does that make us better off? We work harder and give away more stuff, for less.

Get used to it. The only way we will be better off, again, is when we once again make the stuff we want to buy. Here is a start vis-a-vis the above comparison:

All-new Chrysler 300 Takes Top Spot in the 2005 MOTOR TREND Car of the Year Competition

Striking Design and Legendary HEMI® Key Attributes in Securing the Coveted Honor

Auburn Hills, Michigan, USA, November 18, 2004

Chrysler 300

The 2005 Chrysler 300 has returned the great American car to the podium, winning the 2005 MOTOR TREND Car of the Year award.

"We're excited about the all-new 2005 Chrysler 300 taking its rightful place as the winner of this prestigious award," said Dieter Zetsche, President and CEO of the Chrysler Group. "It acknowledges all of our employees' hard work in bringing a new standard for American large cars to reality and serves as further inspiration to those who have re-invented high-performance, contemporary sedans."

The 2005 Chrysler 300 faced intense competition from other cars in this year's competition, but emerged as the clear-cut winner for its unique combination of contemporary styling and powerful performance, delivered by its available 340-horsepower 5.7-liter V-8 HEMI® engine with our industry-leading Multi-Displacement System (MDS).

In the January 2005 issue of MOTOR TREND, editors herald the car as, "the rejuvenation of the great American full-size sedan," and say the Chrysler 300," evokes the vibrant American sedans of yesteryear - and steals the show in a highly competitive Car of the Year field." Like the letter series cars of the '50s for which it was named, the all-new Chrysler 300C features a HEMI engine, but with a thoroughly modern interpretation of the legendary powerplant.

"Chrysler's industry-only MDS seamlessly turns off fuel consumption in four cylinders of the 300C's HEMI engine, which combines world-class performance with 10 to 20 percent better fuel economy," said Craig Love, Vice President, Rear-wheel-drive Product Team. "By combining technologies such as an Electronic Stability Program (ESP), all-speed traction control and an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), our engineers were able to develop a rear-wheel-drive vehicle that provides the best balance, handling and driving experience without compromises in performance or luxury."

Comparing the Chrysler 300's combination of performance and styling with others in the running for the award, MOTOR TREND editors said the car, "far exceeds its competitors in style, fit and finish and daring," calling it an, "extremely compelling combo of power, responsiveness, room and refinement." They also noted that, "When design chiefs at rival automakers are overheard saying things like, "You're going to start seeing cars like the 300 from us soon," well, you know you're not just looking at a new automobile, you're witnessing the onset of a paradigm shift."

"We're extremely pleased that MOTOR TREND magazine agrees with America and has singled out the Chrysler 300 as its top car for 2005," said Jeff Bell, Vice President, Chrysler Brand Marketing. "The Chrysler 300 has captured America's imagination and desires, as seen by sales of more than 87,000 Chrysler 300s in the first six months of this year in the United States alone. This translates into six consecutive months of sales topping 10,000 units."

The 2005 Chrysler 300 is available in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive versions. Rear-wheel-drive models are available with the following powertrain options: Chrysler 300 - 2.7-liter DOHC V-6 engine with four-speed automatic transmission; Chrysler 300 Touring and 300 Limited - 3.5-liter High Output V-6 engine with four-speed automatic transmission; and Chrysler 300C - 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine with five-speed automatic transmission with AutoStick®.

All-wheel-drive models feature the following powertrain choices: Chrysler 300 Touring and 300 Limited - 3.5-liter High Output V-6 engine with five-speed automatic transmission with AutoStick; and Chrysler 300C - 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine with five-speed automatic transmission with AutoStick.

Details of the 2005 MOTOR TREND Car of the Year competition will appear in the January 2005 edition of the magazine.

That would be a good question to get answered, as the actual assembly of the subcomponents takes place in Chrysler's Ontario plant! Anyone know where the engines are made?

His socialist allies [Chirac, Gerhard, Putin, Anan, and of course our buddies the Mullahs in Iran and North Korea], to whom he presumably would answer to.

Under Kerry, the U.S. would quietly descend [all while Kerry sanctimoniously boasted about the treaties]...into 3rd or 4th place status, docile subservience, as Global Communism was resurrected...overwhelmed by China and its ASEAN bloc, and the EU Froggies...into a has-been nation, hamstrung by horrific Globalist treaty regimes which would destroy its military, economy...and liberty....

I would say rather that U.S. Strategic Deterrence has worked, i.e., no nuclear war against our mainland...yet. As a practical theory for real security, MAD hasn't worked, all that well. We have had a lot of real hot wars, not cold, all around the peripheries.

And one of the keys to maintaining strategic deterrence was the practical adoption of counterforce deployments during Reagan's terms, so as to credibly have escalatory advantage-denial, and also Reagan's SDI program. It has always kept an potential agressor guessing as to what we really had.

To me, it was even more stupid when Kerry also repeated in the debates, his plan to dismantle and prohibit U.S. Missile Defense. This while just the week before, North Korea had again rattled the cage of the IAEA....
