Hi everyone, I've been lurking here since my local newspaer referred to Free Republic in an article about Rathergate. I was also lurking on Democratic Underground since I found it referenced here and at Blogs for Bush several times. I like to read what the "moon bats" have to say about things too because I find it highly entertaining..

Anyhow, just thought I would post this link because it highlights in red businesses which contribute to the Gop mostly. I can now choose more intelligently where to shop! :) We can beat them at their own game by choosing red over blue!

Welcome to Free Republic. Thanks for the list, but the timing is really bad ... no one goes shopping this time of year.

Who'd have thunk Barnes and Noble would be in the Dem column! /sarcasm off

Looks good, though I don't think its a good thing to have Dollar General in our corner :/

Thanks for the list, and welcome to you.

I'm glad to see that Home Depot is a red store. I spend so much money there, they'd go broke without my little home-improvement projects. I work just down the street from the local HD and spend my lunch hour in their drooling over the big miter saws.

Well, since I am practically living at Home Depot these days, it makes me feel good to know it is a 'red' business.

I won't shop at Target, though, until and unless they allow the Salvation Army back. Other than that, good list.

Do note that while some of the "blue companies" are true believers (e.g. Barnes and Noble at 98% blue), that most of them just give to whomever is in power (e.g. Walgreens at 53%). I would guess that the list was colored differently in 1993.

Except for the occasional "conservative company" (e.g. LL Bean, Coors, Jay's Potato Chips) you are best off spending on folks who don't play the game at all.

Avoiding the "deep blues" is still good, of course. But where do you buy books? (Other than directly from the publishers, and as an employee of TAN Books (Traditional Catholic Books, tanbooks.com)I recommend that heartily! For the used stock, go to bookfinder, not Amazon.

Good first post. I can't confirm your percentages from prior knowledge, but I can confirm that you've gotten the leanings of many of these companies right.

My only quarrel is not with you but with conservatives generally, for letting the leftist networks foist these labels of red and blue onto us. Republicans have always been true blue and Democrats have always been marxist red. Why should we let some mogul at ABC/NBC/CBS&Co. reverse the colors on us for propaganda purposes?

The coasts should be red and the heartland blue.

Although Amazon is probably somewhat liberal, they are not nearly as far out as Barnes & Noble. They don't go so far out of the way to hide conservative books, for instance. If those are your choices, Amazon is preferable.

I've never shopped at Target ever since I found out that it is foreign owned and operated by a French firm.
