US says not look for contest with Russia over Ukraine poll result

WASHINGTON, Nov. 24 (Xinhuanet) -- Outgoing US Secretary of State Colin Powell said on Wednesday that the United Stated did not lookfor a contest with Russia over the poll result of Ukraine.

Powell said he had a "good" conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and both the United States and Russia are interested in finding a solution to the Ukrainian crisis.

"What we are trying to do now is to use diplomacy and use political actions to resolve this. We are not looking for a contest with the Russians over this," Powell said.

Powell did not go into any specifics of any possible solution to the Ukrainian election crisis.

"One suggestion that has been made is another election, but there are other suggestions out there. This is the time for all alternatives to be examined carefully, to be examined in light of the law. And hopefully the parties, acting reasonably and doing everything to avoid any use of force, can find a way forward," Powell said.

Powell's comments came after Ukraine's Central Election Commission on Wednesday declared incumbent Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich the winner of the presidential election.

Commission head Serhiy Kivalov said that Yanukovich has won 49.46 percent of the vote and the opposition leader Viktor Yushchenkogained 46.61 percent.

Ukrainian opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko has claimed that he was denied victory in the presidential poll by fraud and declared himself president on Tuesday during an emergency parliament session attended by his supporters. Enditem

Most of Russia is formerly communist. What did you think? They had a bunch of capitalists hiding in their beds, still alive, after 80 or so years?

Let's have a war between the US and Russia, and after we destroyed each other, China and France can pick up the pieces and take over the world. Is that your preferred scenario?

Vladimir Putin Quotes

Anyone who doesn't regret the passing of the Soviet Union has no heart. Anyone who wants it restored has no brains.
Vladimir Putin

History proves that all dictatorships, all authoritarian forms of government are transient. Only democratic systems are not transient. Whatever the shortcomings, mankind has not devised anything superior.
Vladimir Putin

Russia is a part of European culture. Therefore, it is with difficulty that I imagine NATO as an enemy.
Vladimir Putin

Russia needs a strong state power and must have it. But I am not calling for totalitarianism.
Vladimir Putin

Russia will not soon become, if it ever becomes, a second copy of the United States or England - where liberal value have deep historic roots.

"Many people link their whole lives with Lenin's name. For them his burial would mean that they had bowed down to false values, set themselves false tasks and lived in vain." - Vladimir Putin

The islamonazis would be cheering to see two of their largest enemies fighting. Sharon has knocked them to their knees by courting Putin and Russia so hardily.

Beslan story

a main source of most of the lies about Putin

Those who "link their whole lives with Lenin's name," (such as the Chekist Putin) have indeed "bowed down to false values, set themselves false tasks and lived in vain."

Putin denies that Communism is a false value, and that its genocidal dream of class warfare is pursued in vain.

Most loyal American patriots rejoiced at the fall of the bloody Soviet Empire. The "heartless" are those who deny that the evils done in the name of Marxist-Leninist Bolshevik ideology offer nothing but misery to the world.

Putin is simply being compassionate. You have to understand how Russians do and say things. You're missing the boat entirely.

You don't understand. Yes almost 99% of people were in communist party because you just can't survive without this.
But even before 1985 there were people who quit party,
between 1985-1991 alsmost 90% of people quit party..

But Putin and others who are in power right now they never wanted to CHANGE anything..

He said himself "Once KGB - always KGB"

Words have meanings. Either the dream of Marxist-Leninism is a false and vain hope, or it isn't. I believe it is.

Umm, Putin is "in power" because the Russians elected him, he is extremely popular in Russia.

Except with the liberal whiners.

I think you would be very surprised. Take a semester or two of Russian and get back to me. It's not what you think, I am guessing. It doesn't translate like some languages do, Spanish for instance.

The cultural differences are very large and not to be swept under the rug. Try sitting on the floor in Russia.

To suggest that those who rejoiced at the collapse of the bloodiest evil empire in history are heartless is a stupid thing to say, and an insult to all those who died fighting Bolshevik tyranny.

Have you heard even one Putin speech?
Here is an example:

Address by President Vladimir Putin
September 4, 2004
Moscow, Kremlin

http://www.kremlin.ru/eng/speeches/2004/09/04/1958_76332.shtml

"Russia has lived through many tragic events and terrible
ordeals over the course of its history. Today, we live
in a time that follows the collapse of a vast and
great state (40,000,000 people were killed by
this great state)
, a state that, unfortunately,
proved unable to survive in a rapidly changing world.
But despite all the difficulties, we were able to
preserve the core of what was once the vast
Soviet Union, and we named this new country the Russian
Federation. "

Do you know what core he talks about? Democracy? Freedom?
No! - 80 YEAR of killings not only Russian people but also Americans, Europeans etc..

Listen to his speeches were he talks about danger of
AMERICA SUPPORTING TERRORISM and the need for RUSSIA to
develop new Nuclear ICBMs..

Russia under Putin spends 30% of their budget for Army,
they don't buy helicopters to fight terrorism they build Nuclear weapons to attack AGRESSORS..

Look what most Americans don't get is that the liberals in Russia are responsible for a lot of the anti-Putin stuff.

Yeltsin let the mobs and mafia run free and they made a lot of money on the backs of the Russian people. Russia is so deeply mired in corruption that even Putin chose to tread around them carefully until Beslan happened.

Just try reading this to understand the charges against Putin for freedom of the press, for one example.
Another view

Much of the press there is as corrupt as ours. And surely you didn't believe CNN about Kosovo?

You know Putin had 5% rating in 1999 and then won with 70% rating in 1 year.. Do you believe that?

You know Stalin, Khruschev, Bregnev, Andropov were ELECTED by RUSSIANS along with Russians "ELECTING" to go with Cuban Missiles, Vietnam, Korea and Afganistan..

The only problem that as Stalin used to say:
"It doesn't matter how people VOTE - what matters is how you COUNT" ..
