Even Fox is calling the SKS an "Assault Weapon" in the crawl under the picture. We need a minor FReep to set them straight.

Even Fox is calling the SKS an "Assault Weapon" in the crawl under the picture. In the media's mind, and that includes Fox News, every gun is an "assault weapon".

Yeah...this is definitely in need of Freeping.
I suppose this nutjob shot these people from an Assault Tree Stand.... and that he used his special Assault Boots...and that he was wearing Assault Gloves and an Assault Hat and of course lets not forget the Assault Jacket!!!
...and the SKS is a PARTICULARLY deadly weapon, which is exactly why our U.S. Marine Corps snipers use them regularly! (insert sarcasm here). It's also why the Russians still issue them to their regular army ((insert MORE sarcasm here). Heck, that rifle is SOOO deadly that our own military is considering dropping all current and future small arms development and just issuing SKSs to ALL of our soldiers!...r-i-g-h-t...
I'll bet that this guy could have actually climbed OUT of that tree stand and left that evil SKS up there and it would have SHOT all of these people by itself! ...because we all KNOW that guns kill people!....ESPECIALLY ASSAULT WEAPONS!
What a farce. We're lucky to keep rounds on paper (8.5 x 11") at 300 yards with our SKSs. But we've got two rifles (Rem M-700, .243, and a Mauser chambered for the .30-06) that shoot .3" groups (yeah...that's three tenths of one inch) at 300 yards. There's a GOOD reason our snipers use rifles like these and NOT that SKS.
Most state games laws specify that a five round magazine be fixed to the rifle for hunting. Does anybody know if this was fitted to his rifle?
