Good article. Though I think draining the swamp would be a more fitting analogy :)

I can already see it now, the media is going to be watching Bush and Rice like hawks... if Condi says something that sounds one shade different than the president they are going to pounce!

Well, I might have more respect for the article if whoever generated the headline actually understood the difference between "reigning" (i.e. rule as royalty) and "reining" (pulling on reins to slow or stop a horse). Cheez--the American education system is producing some dumbasses these days.

The editors/s didn't catch it, either. (Actually, neither did I 'til you mentioned it.)

Others have derided Rice's managerial style and labeled her as an “extremist.” (Sadly, the usually level-headed governor of New Mexico, Bill Richards, falls into this category.)

Anyone else notice how the Democrats label any black person who wanders off their plantation an "extremist." This is their word of choice for Clarence Thomas too.

As a side, note, I think Newt Gingrich would make an excellent #2 for Condi at State.

First, Porter Goss at the CIA and now Condaleeza Rice at State. Let the cleansing of the Augean stables begin, the world is witnessing a radical change in the status quo of the European and the Middle Eastern landscapes.

Watch the mandarins summarily commit sepuku.

Yes,

I would like to see Gingrich's talent and intellect being effectively used in the national interest.

All you MSM and DU lurkers who keep calling the Red state voters racist, do you see a pattern here of near worship of this powerful BLACK woman? Does that sound racist to you idiots?

Not just his talent and intellect, but also his tough managerial style.
I think Newt knows exactly what's wrong with State, as he has discussed it in detail with authority on many occassions, and he would have the intestinal fortitude to be Condi's axe man.

Don't you realize that Clarence Thomas and Condi Rice *are not black* by leftist definition? They are not liberal, so they are not black. Clinton was liberal, therefore Clinton was black.

Reality doesn't matter to leftists. That is why they will continue to lose.

Kinda funny. All the spin shows are "concerned" that there will not be a "diversity of opinions" given to the White House.

Lessee, when George Washington had a "diversity of opinions" about foreign policy---Jefferson, the Francophile and Adams/Hamilton the Anglophiles---it resulted in a near disaster. We had backbiting, the "X,Y,Z Affair," "Citizen Genet," and probably the biggest foreign policy flop of Washington's two administrations.

Likewise, when Woodrow Wilson had "diversity" of opinions from William Jennings Bryan, it resulted in us allowing the Germans to sink non-combatant ships with Americans on them for a couple of years.

Seems to me that solidarity is desirable.

Have you read some of the posts here at FR? (And I consider us the elite of educated Americans.)

Heck, I've made some pretty stupid errors here too.

The liberals since election 2000 have witnessed the destruction of their finely built "WALLS" and their world is crumbling before their eyes.

Got to wonder what catastrophe they are plotting and planning to avert the world's attention. The global pressure is building and these people are not going away.

Yes, but the person who made the headline error wasn't from Free Republic. He/she/it ("if" the headline wasn't the product of the article's author--then it would be "he") is a PROFESSIONAL JOURNALIST, and the one thing "journalists" are suppposed have down pat is how to WRITE.....which kind of implies SOME knowledge of correct vocabulary and spelling.

But I guess that kind of thing is "irrelevant" these days.

I'll bet neither Anne Coulter nor Michelle Malkin would screw up that way.

Then again, it may have been a deliberate pun.

An excellent synopsis of Condi, and her relationship to President Bush. It summarizes beautifully what I've gleaned throughout the years about her, and also about "Foggy Bottom"

By the way, I thought "reigning" was a deliberate pun, or double entendre, also.

Watch the mandarins summarily commit sepuku.

They don't have the courage to do that; they'll just sit back comfortably and snipe about everything the President and Secy. Rice do.
