WASHINGTON - Recent polls show the public's image of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., gradually morphing from sharply controversial First Lady to centrist constituent-minded senator. Although still a polarizing figure, the first-term lawmaker could use the makeover to position herself for a White House run in 2008.
Political strategists say Clinton has impressed Senate colleagues and constituents by working methodically on New York issues while taking moderate or conservative stances on controversies such as the war in Iraq.
"A majority feel positive toward her," said Lee Miringoff, director of the Marist Institute for Public Opinion in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. "She's being seen as being more effective and sticking to her job. She's managed to shape her role in a way that's more acceptable. She's in a transition."

Thank you, Barbara.
I hope someone throws some holy water on her. She'll melt just like the insidious witch she truly is.
"look for evidence of aiming her campaign at the most impressionable among us."
Precisely, and that is why we had better be working diligently on these youth between now and 2008, educating them about the evils of socialism espoused by the liberal pigs.
Anything the media can do for her, they will do-starting today.
(please see my previous post--I worry about the "outlawing Roe v. Wade" propaganda). You know what's sad about the whole thing? That the success of a Republican president could mean the downfall of the next Republican candidate.
Are very good points. There's a lot of heavy lifting ahead.
A Majority of what ? Blue States ?
All she needs is what? 4% of those undecideds. And 4 years to do it.... It's a race already, and she's moving to the center (in appearance at least).
agreed. of course the best education is example. I see a lot of opportunity for this in the "ownership society," yet another home run of a Bush doctrine.
Oops, AR not AK.
Time to ditch the black pantsuits and break out the "pretty in pink" suits. Image over substance.
Her unfavorable rating is much higher than Bush's or even Kerry's. I'm not dismissing the threat of Hillary, but a very high percentage of Americans have already come to the conclusion that they don't like her at all.
I think they have confused "softening" with melting.
Not without fixing voter fraud. She has the Daly machine oiled and fine-tuned.
"...holy water"
She is the antichrist- beelzebubbette- pure evil incarnate. She is here to mark the end of time. And wanna know something, I'm not sure anyone can stop her.
Whatever the hell you do DON"T LOOK INTO HER EYES!
And it's been pointed out elsewhere on this forum via direct link to DU that even "they" don't want her to run.
Hillary is a flaming liberal. No matter what she says or does in between now and the time she runs for president, voters know exactly what a Hillary Clinton administration would mean for the country.
If anyone suggests Hillary run on DU, they're immediately accused of being a Freeper. Those threads are hilarious.
When the media says she is remaking herself, moving left to gear up for a run for the Presidency, don't people realize that it is all phony? Are they this stupid?
The sparkle in her eyes isn't the light bouncing off her contact lenses. It's something evil/LOL.
