After searching FR, I could not find any mention of this - but thought that it is worth posting.
I don't think the following goes far enough: "In his stoic and serene "It is what it is" comment, however, Mr. Bush revealed everything we need to know about the outcome of the 2004 election."
I think that it revealed more about W the man and President than it did about the election. Everyone thought that he was going to lose. Does he panic, or assign blame, fret? No. He accepts his fate - whatever it may be. W believes in the Creator and that he has a divine plan for all of us. W's faith is profound.
The simple "It is what it is" puts everything in its place - and in perspective. For all of us.
Class.
You nailed it BUMP!

Bush took it far better than I. I'd just left my oncologist's office and the wife broke the news to me that the exit polls were skewing toward Kerry. I openly lamented the news and then went to vote. Afterward, I came home and turned on Fox News. It was then that I saw Bush had 120+ Electoral Votes and Kerry was at or below 70 EVs.
It was then that I got the distinct impression that things were going to be fine.
Thanks for the post.
Dubya's no fool.
When he called the travelling Press Corps up to see him in the White House - while the World Media was relying on dodgy Exit Polls - he knew he had it in the bag.
He was playing with them.
Now the Dimplecrats are talking about exit polls being the real deal and the voters were wrong? Sigh.
He has also been quoted saying that if he lost his office because of the war on terrorism/Iraq than "so be it".This is what a true leader is and there is NO ONE in the dem party that has these qualities.
A perfect "zen" attitude, accepting things as they are, without any complaint.
What a difference from Kerry...when you read the Newsweek article, the differences between the two men are as far apart as their political philosophies
"It is what it is."
Obviously, it depends on the meaning of is.
Interesting.
The President borrows an elegant phrase from the Pope (remember he said this about Mel Gibson's movie "The Passion"), while Kerry and bin Laden borrow phrases from Michael Moore.
It doesn't get any plainer than that.
That depends on what the meaning of the word "IT" is.
If he truly made that statement, it is a clear example of how much President Bush has peace within himself.
New meaning to "IS".
I have another example of how "real" our president really is. In his press conference last week, the CNN reporter caught GWB off guard by telling him that CNN was reporting that Yasser Arafat had died (CNN backtracked immediately following the conference, but that is a different story). The President was asked, "do you have any comments." Caught completely off-guard, our president paused only a couple of seconds and then said "Yes, I have two comments. The first is, God bless his soul. The second is that I hope the Palestinian peace process........" The very first, off-the-top-of-his-head response was perfect and perfectly Bush.
Reminds me of JBII's comments after seeing The Passion.
I remember at 8:00pm knowing it was over, we won.
(I really did freak on those early exit polls.)
After all the bias and fraud exhibited by the old media, its amazing that Bush and company actually believed those stupid exit polls. I didn't believe them for a second, and anyone who did was a bloody fool for doing so.
Yes. Do I ever remember the "it is what it is" from last Tuesday as reported in a bulletin in the afternoon. There may also be another explanation or meaning behind those words. (Sorry I am too lazy to scroll down, so maybe somebody sees it this way, too.)
It is not necessarily the President resigned to his destiny, at peace, knowing he can do no more, it may also be a President who knows they are JUST EXIT POLLS. They are not the REAL POLLS. In essence, then, "it is what it is."
Either way, pretty cool customer there in the White House.
