ALBANY - New York Republicans don't have a lot of time to bounce back from their drubbing at the polls last week: The race against Senator Clinton is just two years away.

Defeating the former first lady, or at least tarnishing her image, will be a priority for Republicans nationwide in 2006, given Mrs. Clinton's status as the Democrats' early front-runner for president in 2008.

I would say that Pataki is more conservative then Chaffee, that is actually a good comparison. If we have Chaffee in the senate, we certainly could stomach Pataki.

"George W. Bush substantially improved on his 2000 showing in New York, cutting the Democrat margin by 500,000 votes. Did all of that improvement take place in Upstate New York?"

No, Bush also improved in the suburbs and even in NYC. His vote percentage went up by 7% in Suffolk, 8% in Nassau, 12% in Staten Island (cops and firemen must have voted for Bush), 6% in Queens, 9% in Brooklyn, 2.5% in Manhattan, 5% in the Bronx, 3% in Westchester, 10% in Rockland (who says that Bush didn't do better with Jewish voters?), 5% in Orange, 6% in Putnam and 4.5% in Dutchess. Since Bush's vote percentage went up only 5% statewide, it appears that his largest improvement was in the NYC metro area.

Of course, Pataki is much less liberal than Chafee, and Chafee is one RINO Senator that I would rather see lose to a Democrat so long as we aren't in danger of losing the Senate. But if Chafee was running against Hillary, I'd all of a sudden think he was Chafee-rific.

Hillary must be defeated in 2006.

THE ONLY person who can take her on AND WIN --- THE ONLY ONE --- is Rudy Giuliani. AND ... as luck would have it I finally tracked down some contact information this afternoon.

Am still planning on contacting the NYGop for possible additional info., but since we're on it this evening, messages can be gotten to him via >>> GIULIANI PARTNERS, LLC ... 5 TIMES SQUARE ... NY, NY 10036 ... p: 212.931.7300 ... f: 2125.931.7310.

"Willie Randolph?"

Randolph? He was a Met for what, half a season? Randolph is a Yankee, period.

If we're going to nominate a Met, it should be Mike Piazza; at least we know that he's a Republican.

up 9% in Brooklyn

Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Gerritsen Beach, Borough Park and the Russian precincts in Sheepshead Bay are where I bet the lion's share of the vote came from. I seriously doubt that we made inroads in Park Slope (Yuppies), Bedford Stuyvesant (da Broddahs), and Williamsburgh (Artistes, Satmars and Crackheads).

I'll run. My past can make Bill Clinton look like a saint. That might be what it takes for a Republican to get elected in NY.

Ideal situation:

1. Pataki runs against Rodham (probably loses) -- the Dems are cursed with Rodham as their 2008 prez candidate
2. Giuliani runs against Spitzer (or Schumer) for Governor and wins, sparing us from Spitzer suing his way to the presidency.
3. Mike Bloomberg switches parties and wins the Rat primary and we get a Republican elected mayor of NYC (okay so that's a pipe dream)

When you look back over the last several decades, the "frontrunner" for a presidential nomination almost never gets it: Dean, McCain, Bradley, Gore (in 88), Hart, Bush (in 80) and the list goes on.

I guess it depends when you annoint the frontrunner.

Dole in 1995, Bush in 1999, Gore in 1999, Kerry in 2003 -- they were ALL frontrunners. Didn't hold leads the whole time, perhaps, but they were the favorites starting out.

Dean was only in front for a few months in late 2003, McCain was NEVER in front, Bradley may have led at some point.

Hm, let's be careful, though. That didn't work too well for the Rats this past election, did it? I mean, I'm personally of the ABH persuasion myself, but if that's our only message - be it for her Senate race in 2006 or the presidency in 08 - then that's a losing message. And Pataki for Senate in 06 brings a lot of baggage with him, and if there's anyone who knows how to use your opponent's baggage it's Hillary.

At any rate, the NY GOP could sure as hell use the rejuvenation. Statewide, we were just demolished last week (possibly thanks, in part, to ol' Soros himself).

I think Pataki will run against Hillary in 2006. If he doesn't run, he will lose to Spitzer (it's hard to hold the governor's mansion after 3 terms...Cuomo couldn't do it). If Pataki wins, he's a hero. If he loses, Bush will make him ambassador to Canada or something.

Pataki's henchmen say that he needs to run and win in the Senate race to have a chance at the Presidential nod in '08.
Look, Geo. E. Pataki has been, for the last two terms, a horrible Governor. He is a worse Republican. He IS NO Republican. There isn't a Republican in this godforsaken heck hole of a State!!! When Michael Bloomberg and Joe Bruno can call themselves "Republicans" after the fiasco of 20 late budgets and grossly inflated State budgets along with Geo. E. Pataki is beyond comparison. Hillary will be reelected by 70-75 percent of the vote and will be nominated for President in '08 by the Demoncrats. I just pray that a great Republican from SOMEWHERE ELSE gets the nod so she will lose!
