WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Republican in line to head the Senate Judiciary Committee pledged Sunday not to stall the president's judicial nominees even if they oppose abortion rights. The White House expressed confidence its choices would get a fair hearing.
Sen. Arlen Specter, a moderate from Pennsylvania who backs abortion rights, said he has supported judicial nominees in the past who do not agree with the Supreme Court's 1973 Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion.
"The fact is that I have supported all of President Bush's nominees in committee and on the floor. I have never applied a litmus test," Specter told CBS' "Face the Nation."
He added: "Although I am pro-choice, I have supported many pro-life nominees."

Sorry, Specter. We don't buy your backpedaling. You're history. Shut up and get off he bus.
Would you buy a used car from this con artist?
Must be feeling the heat of thousands of phone calls buring up the lines against him.....STFU Senator...we got your number and you ain't gonna go to the dance..........
Never trust a liberal, even if they call themselves Republican. Specter must be stopped.
I smell a rat.
And we are supposed to believe anything Arlen "magic bullet" "one truck bomb at OKC" Specter says?
Yeah. And the check's in the mail.
He must not become chairman. He must must be stopped at all costs!
Oh really?! And who might they be? Let's see the list.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I believe you, too, Arlen. Uh huh. Yep. Right.
I'm going to call Frist and the members of the Jud Cmte on Mon and retract my calls to them on Fri.

Too little too late. There is no way this RINO should be the head of anything, except bathroom duty.

The Specter of Defeat
"As for pro-lifers, Specter, a vigorous Roe defender (he cited abortion as a major reason for his ghastly 1996 presidential run), is doing his usual pre-primary kiss-up of the group he short-shrifts five out of every six years. (In the 1986 primary he weirdly countered his pro-abortion stand by urging voters to watch The Silent Scream, a pro-life film of a sonogram showing an actual abortion.)
Mary Beliveau, head of the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation PAC, told Lifenews.com that Specter is "feverishly courting pro-life audiences, using Christian radio in attempts to fool listeners into thinking he shares their values by touting support for abstinence programs and a partial-birth abortion ban. Yet, at the same time he voted for the partial-birth abortion ban, he voted for an amendment to support the 1973 Roe.v. Wade decision that legalized abortion on demand throughout nine months of pregnancy, which allows the equally grotesque dismemberment procedure. This was his signal to NARAL that his position did not change." http://www.nationalreview.com/comment/fowler200403231002.asp
Dear Arlen,
SHUT UP - YOU ARE TOO LATE WITH YOUR PATHETIC LIES!
Specter loses his litmus test right before tough elections. Unfortunately, there are no elections coming up for Specter to get him back in line.
Abortion not with standing, should a Senator that invokes Scottish law during one of the most important judicial functions of the legislative branch be chairman of the Senate Judicial committee?
He did support Clarence Thomas who strongly adheres to a pro-life viewpoint. In fact, Specter ripped Anita Hill apart in her testimony at Thomas' hearing.
Yet, despite the above, I believe that he should not be Senate Judiciary Chair because today it is clear that the has sold out to NARAL and NOW. That was not the case when Thomas was appointed.
Yeah right! At the first opportunity, he'll sink that butcher knife into the prez and other conservative pubbies real deep. DemocRATS posing as pubbies don't turn.
