A 5 Eyewitness News crew in Iraq may have been just a door away from materials that could be used to detonate nuclear weapons. The evidence is in videotape shot by Reporter Dean Staley and Photographer Joe Caffrey at or near the Al Qaqaa munitions facility.

PICTURES AT http://www.kstp.com/article/stories/S3741.html?cat=64

The video shows a cable locking a door shut. That cable is connected by a copper colored seal. A spokesperson for the International Atomic Energy Agency told 5 Eyewitness News that seal appears to be one used by their inspectors. "In Iraq they were used when there was a concern that this could have a, what we call, dual use purpose, that there could be a nuclear weapons application."

5 Eyewitness News continues to develop new leads and uncover new developments in this story. Watch 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS at 5:00, 6:00 and 10:00 for more insight on these seals the the weapons discovered in Iraq.

From what I have read and heard, the seals meant nothing because there were huge ventilation slats in the sides of the building that could easily be removed.

So a local news crew took a break from kitten-stuck-in-a-tree stories to seek out high explosives and nukes?

Damned ambitious, if you ask me.

looks to me like every MSM orifice in every nook of every cranny had been put on notice to push this story no matter what shape it takes.

Yep and I know the Iraqis under Saddam Hussein wouldn't want to break any IAEA seal. That way they could just drive by and say, yep she's still sealed.

Also I doubt the Iraqis would have substituted the real stuff for sand.

I fail to see the importance of this. We already knew this stuff could have nuclear applications. I don't see where this is breaking news.

materials that could be used to detonate nuclear weapons.

Such as high explosives? Laugh. Obviously these people have zero clue about how nuclear weapons work. They use a conventional explosive to initiate the nuclear detonation. More news about nothing.

Note the date April 18 (the date mentioned in the ABC story--and they helpfully add the "nine days after Baghdad fell" so we know it is not a typo) is not on this timeline of Al Qaqaa.
The 101st was not at the complex on the date ABC claims this video was taken. It was at some other site, which makes their "point" moot (and wrong):

Timeline on missing explosives in Iraq

http://www.boston.com/news/world/middleeast/articles/2004/10/27/timeline_on_missing_explosives_in_iraq/

excerpt:

-- April 9: The 3rd Infantry Division captures Baghdad.

-- April 10: Troops from the 101st Airborne Division's 2nd Brigade spend 24 hours at the site, search for chemical weapons -- but not high explosives -- and then head to Baghdad. An NBC reporter embedded with the unit said there's no talk among the 101st of securing the area after they leave.

-- May 3: The nuclear agency purportedly notifies the U.S. Mission in Vienna of its concerns about the Al-Qaqaa facility.

~snip~

No IAEA Seals on Al-Qaqaa Bunkers in KSTP Video

In the first link is the video of the MN reporters who claim they were in a bunker.

In the video, there was definitely NOT one of these sealed on the bunker they clipped open.

And then we have this from 2003

February 2003 U.N. Report: Saddam Moving Explosives From Al-Qaqaa
Newsmax ^ | Oct 27 | Newsmax

Posted on 10/27/2004 2:28:06 AM CDT by Nathan Zachary

The United Nations nuclear watchdog group first reported that Saddam Hussein had begun moving stockpiles of explosives from his Al-Qaqaa nuclear weapons facility a month before the U.S. invaded Iraq.

The February 2003 report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), first reported Tuesday by the Fox News Channel, severely undermines claims by the New York Times, CBS News and the Kerry campaign that the Al-Qaqaa explosives went missing only after the U.S. gained control of the facility.

Fox correspondent Bret Baier detailed the chronology of events at Al-Qaqaa for "Special Report with Brit Hume":

"In January 2003, inspectors with the International Atomic Energy Agency went to the Al-Qaqaa storage facility, tagging and sealing the large stockpile of powerful conventional explosives, HMX and RDX.

"In February 2003, IEAE chief Mohamed ElBaradei reported to the United Nations Security Council that some explosives had been removed from Al-Qaqaa - 377 tons remained.

"On March 8, 2003, IEAE inspectors made their last check of the facility before the war. The IAEA said that included a spot check on some - but not all - of the sealed explosives.

"The war started March 19. After the Army's 3rd Division moved through here on their way to Baghdad, the first U.S. troops stopped in to Al-Qaqaa on April 9.

"A Reuters camera crew embedded with the scouts from the 101st Airborne Division arrived at the storage facility, did a quick search noting a number of bunkers filled with explosives - but nothing marked by the IAEA.

"On April 10, the Second Brigade of the 101st arrived there and spent the night. An NBC crew was with them. A cursory search was conducted. Again, nothing marked or tagged by the IAEA was spotted. The Second Brigade left the next day, pushing forward to Baghdad.

"U.S. weapons inspectors, the Iraq Survey Group, arrived at the site on May 27, conducting a full search of the 32 bunkers - and they did not find any of the IAEA-marked explosives." Baier's report continued:

"If one large truck contains ten tons, U.S. commanders say it's highly unlikely that insurgents managed to take 38 truckloads worth of explosives out of the facility in that time.

"The roads were filled with convoys pushing to Baghdad, clogged with supplies and communications lines stretching all the way back to Kuwait - all being watched closely by unmanned aerial vehicles like the Jointstars and the Predators to protect the troops' rear flank and to spot unusual activity.

"Defense Secretary Rumsfeld - asked about the missing explosives in a radio interview today - said the specifics are under investigation by the Iraq Survey Group. But he chose to point out that Saddam Hussein moved many weapons and explosives before the war."

Even CBS reported on how thorough a search our military did back in 2003.

This was posted on Lucianne.com by a poster who heard the photographer on the radio this morning:

"This ABC story is very misleading. The photographer who shot the video was on a local radio station this morning and he made no such claims. In fact he had the tape sent to some weapons experts to try and verify that what was on his videotape was the stuff that has been in the press.

He also wasn't even sure he was at Al-Qaqaa, he stated that the reporter that he was with was constantly taking GPS readings and that he was also trying to find the GPS coordinates of Al-Qaqaa to match the coordinates that he and the reporter were recording.

He was very adamant that he did not know what he saw or for that matter exactly where he was and he was waiting for more information before he would be confident that the stuff he saw was indeed the controversial explosives."

http://www.kstp.com/article/stories/S3740.html?cat=1

The reporter is not even sure it was Al-QaQaa, and the date cited is April 18 - one week AFTER the time frame that has been discussed when the 101st was there (April 11)and two weeks after the 3rdID was there (April 4).

The time frame and the location then are suspect, as the IAEA has not claimed that HMX was missing from any other location, and it appears the photographer was not even sure where he was.

ABC said the inspection report noted that the seals at Al-Qaqaa may have been useless because the storage bunkers had ventilation slats on the sides that could have been removed to give looters access to the explosives.

The MSM will keep pushing this story in a manner as negative to GWB as possible. We have no doubt about this.

We simply need to get our message (the facts) as much as possible regarding this issue over the next 72 hours. We need to highlight the 400,000 + tons of Weapons / explosives we have destroyed.

We need to re-assert the fact that many items within Iraq were "moved" to places unknown prior to our invasion.

But it is us who must get this information out. The MSM will not do it.

Actually the local KSTP reporter and photographer didn't report this the way ABC is doing it. KSTP is an ABC affiliate.

What pro Kerry idiot keeps posting these? They prove nothing. Flailing away. Way too many impossibilites not addressed here. When, how much was there, how were they removed? The military said the roads were clogged with trucks. There was no insurgency in May 2003, etc. etc.

Furthermore, HMX or RMX have never been used by the insurgents. So even then, whoever "has" it, is sitting on it.

On Fox Britt Hume said the vents on the sides of the storage bunkers made the seals redundant. You could enter the bunker through the vents easily.

This is a post deserving to be deleted.
