Media Watchdog: 'October Surprise' Blows Up in Faces of NY Times, CBS News
Cybercast News Service ^ | October 26, 2004 | Melanie Hunter, Managing Editor

(CNSNews.com) - A media watchdog group Tuesday said "what amounted to an 'October surprise'" by the New York Times and CBS News blew up in their faces.

The Times was first to report Monday what it considered to be new information that 380 tons of explosives were missing from an Iraqi military facility that was supposed to be under U.S. military control. But an NBC News report later noted the explosives were already gone before troops arrived at the Al-Qaqaa installation in April 2003.

CBS News' "60 Minutes" was planning to hold the story until Halloween, two days before Election Day, according to the Drudge Report Tuesday. "Our plan was to run the story on October 31, but it became clear that it wouldn't hold..." Jeff Fager, executive producer of the Sunday "60 Minutes," reportedly said in a statement.

"Both the New York Times and CBS have repeatedly shown they have chosen sides against President Bush in this election and, once again, they have been caught with Halloween eggs on their faces," said Media Research Center President Brent Bozell in a statement.

"Once again it's the Times, once again it's CBS, once again it's 60 Minutes, and once again they have proven that they cannot be believed when it comes to election coverage or anything else," Bozell said.

"The Times, CBS News, and 60 Minutes especially, have proven beyond all doubt that they are nothing more than extensions of the Democratic National Committee and they have no credibility whatsoever. In fact, episodes such as this and the Rathergate fiasco prove they may be even more partisan than the Democratic Party itself," he added.

I think the MRC will be ignored as usual by the MSM. From everything I'm hearing today, Kerry's being allowed to run with his version unchallenged. Is that how it seems to everyone else?

Not only NYT and CBS but the Kerry/Edwards campaign is running with it. Must have been a three fronted assault of old news retread. A little more collusion? I think so.

then why were Freepers freaking out about this just this morning?.. mad that the WH isn't responding strongly enough... i read threads of Sean Hannity being "ticked" to the high heavens... is it going to be an issue or not? is this going to hurt the President? last night when i turned in, i thought, "not." but after reading all the threads this morning, i didn't know what to think.

The trouble is that we can't "un-ring a bell." The sheep aren't paying that much attention. When they see the propaganda, in 72 point type in The NY Times, or hearit in the polished tones of the network anchors, they are often unlikely to respond to the little retractions from the media or understand the facts from our side. The Big Lie Theory is alive and well, and counts heavily on an uninformed electorate for success. Right now, almost exactly 50% of the elctorate meets the requirements.

Here's Carville's line about the missing arms-----"The NBC correspondent said that the Army didn't even bother to go look for the weapons".

Rush was talking about that and said he could not believe that they are so stupid to run with it.

Needless to say I agree

Thos responses you are reading on this board comes from three camps.

1) Trolls

2) Sleeper Trolls

3) Hand wringers

The first two are expected, the last is the type that reacts to every single digit change in a poll with fright.

Trust your instincts. This isn't a big deal, at least in the way the MSM & DNC plotted. It is a big deal in the sense of the lows they would sink to get rid of this President.

People should still be outraged that the media and presedential candidate launched a coordinated attack on the most powerful office of this country without repercussions. Hard to unring a bell. Many have seen the slander, not as many will see that it was based on BS.

No, the RNC and Bush Cheney 04 will not reply to this based on their miserable track record. It's already too late, they should have done that last night after NBC came out.

Give credit to the old Clinton people that are now running the Kerry campaign. Their war room is ready to respond and take advantage knowing that the Republicans will still be thinking about a response, if any, while the world has moved on to other things. Most voters will only remember the original NY Times claim and the lying Kerry ad. Rove is probably producing an ad on the increase in salmon spawning in the Northwest under the Bush administration.

I believe that they're thinking about it. Probably sometime next week would be my guess.

John Kerry's beloved UN lost the explosives. The same UN which Kerry wants to run the entire Iraq operation. The same UN that Kerry wants to make America submissive under.
Even after the UN has proved itself to be untrustworthy, John Kerry still trusts the UN more than he trusts America and America's military.

This needs to be exposed on a wide scale. Now.
