The thing is that there were no Mexicans before Spain invaded. Mexicans are the mixed breed children of the Spanish who raped the Indian women.
The original Indians of Mexico are held more or less captive by the mixed breed offspring of the Spanish.
I heard a long lecture by Catholic priests who worked and tried to protect the original Indians and they were threatened to be killed by Mexicans if they didn't get out.
The issue is the Indians are made to work like slaves for the mixed breed Mexicans and are like slaves were in America before the Civil War.
The families of Indians are told there is opportunity for their Indian daughters to be educated and better off if they take positions with companies and they are instead forced in prostitution after they leave their family.
Mexico sucks, they are an immoral glorified third world nation.
Plus they SHOOT people at their own borders.
"Anglos" began settling in Texas in large numbers in, correct me if I am wrong, the 1820s. They did more to develop Texas in 10 years than the Spanish and Mexicans did in 300. You are also correct about the fact that Mexico still has no ability for self-rule.
Part two of my comment is that the lower class Mexican people are good family people and are not as much involved ot riding the Indians.
They are mostly good family people, but seem gutless regarding any inspiration to have a revolution to straighten out their country the way we did in America in the 1700s.
My point is, of all the people that could have been south of our border, we could have done a lot worse than the family loving Mexican peasants. Their upper classes though are like the mafia.
Pssst! It was Generals Zachary Taylor and Winfield Scott.
Some of the lower class are good people --- some are friendly and honest and helpful --- but not all --- there are lower class neighborhoods in Mexico where you would not want to go. Mexico's society is rapidly disintegrating --- crime rates have shot up dramatically --- where it was once pretty safe to travel isn't now --- I know good people from Mexico who won't go just over the border where they are from even for a visit --- they say it's too dangerous now.
Before the "Anglos" were invited to settle in Texas, the Spanish/Mexican population was actually declining because they were unable to defeat the Indians and so were leaving.
"Indians" is a misleading term anyhow -- it's not like Indians were ever one big happy family or one united people --- they were many separate groups which often raided each other and went to war. The Indians of Mexico are different tribes than the ones who were here -- except for a few --- so being Indians doesn't entitle them to the land which belonged to other Indians groups.
Contrary to popular belief, New World "Indians" are not a monolithic race. Different tribes are descended from different groups of east Asians. There is an ethnic difference between a Mayan Indian from Mexico and an Athabasca Indian from Canada.
But you're right -- the Indians seem to be the best people of all in Mexico. I just wouldn't make any generalizations at this point because I think it depends a lot --- I'm not sure I'd go wandering around alone even in the Indian villages in Mexico without careful checking first. Some of the mestizos are pretty good types -- but a lot are terrible --- especially in the areas along the border. Of course I live near Ciudad Juarez so my viewpoint is colored by what I hear first hand from people over there. Other areas are still okay.
I didn't know that. Do you know why?
Interesting you say that FITZ, I had a recent talk with a legal immigrant from Mexico who is a young Americanized female working at a restaurant.
She told me she used to feel safe taking trips back to visit relatives and that she doesn't feel that way now.
I told her about how last summer I took the bus across and back to Mexico in a day just to do it after the years since I was last down there.
I felt UNCOMFORTABLE down there.
The impression I got was it isn't safe down there at all anymore.
I think you are on to something in your post, I felt the same thing and the Mexican born woman I talked to felt and observed the same thing.
Too many people are reporting the same thing, your post is a good one.
Spain claimed it from the Indians in the 1500's, Mexico won it from Spain 1821 and the U.S won in from Mexico 1848... so Mexico clam is the shortest 27 years... Sorry Mexico your last in line behind The US, Spain and the Indians for a claim on this land
The why I can come up with is a lack of democracy.

Thanks, been here already.
God Bless George Putnam by the way, great reporter and an outstanding American.
He always seems to land on his feet no matter what conditions keep hitting him. Great patriot. Great American. Listen when I can.
I was listening to him "before" Rush Limbaugh myself.
Channel? he was moved...
Here's some background and a link:

George can be heard on KSPA-AM and KCEO, San Diego and simulcast coast-to-coast via Cable Radio Network (CRN).
Putnam's a patriot. He knows where the bodies are buried, too.
He also said he would write a book about his life and loves. Granted he has time to write it still at 90, but I hope he's at least started it.
Been about 25-30 years since we met him, when we were visiting Seymore's (remember him?) 'Slimey Wall' set at the studio. Putnam was coming out as we were going in, and was soused (nothing new for him) and either had just been, or soon after was fired. At least he was friendly-drunk, and talked to us a bit, before staggering off.
Didn't know, not having lived in the area since 84, that he was still alive, let alone still on the air.
