Read the full article -- it compares what the speech writers wrote with what he actually said. It's hilarious. I don't understand why people think JFn is such a great orator or why the MSM thinks he won the debates on "style." He's a real gasbag who can't deliver a simple declarative sentence without getting all tangled up in a wild variety of run-on and often irrelevant clauses. It turns out even Slate agrees!

Kerry couldn't read a Dick and Jane book to schoolchildren without transforming its sentences into complex run-ons worthy of David Foster Wallace.

And Mr. Suellentrop can't write a paragraph without making two-bit references to obscure wingnut writers.

Kerry acts like ordering at a restaurant is like delivering the Lincoln Gettysburg Address.

If he had to pay a dollar--from his salary, not his wife's bank account--for every extra word, he'd read each script flawlessly. We in MA know Kerry is CHEAP!

"He's a real gasbag who can't deliver a simple declarative sentence without getting all tangled up in a wild variety of run-on and often irrelevant clauses."

That's because sKerry thinks he's smarter than anyone else. He wants to be sure his 'eloquence' is on display.

Good article. But they miss the point. Its not that he adds words. Its that he is so stupid that when they hand him his speech he thinks it is an outline.

I particularly enjoy his near constant resort to the word "other". he will go off on some tangent as though he is going to recite some long list of events, or issues, or places, but then only turns out to be able to come up with two or three. finding himself in a corner, he repeatedly turns to "other"; "and other places", "and those other things", and just plain ol' "and others". sometimes, "other" is accompanied by a bizarre gesture with one (or sometimes both) of his hands; sort of a tiny windmill sort of thing he does as he desperately tries to find his way out of this verbal corner that he has talked himself into.

watch him. he does it three or four places in every speech. sort of like the fact that he only seems to own two ties; one pale blue, and one a peculiar shade between pink and red. it turns out that there are probably dozens of them, and they are custom made; they all have a "JK" design with american flags on them....

This is absolutely hilarious. Reading the article is funny but you guys are even funnier. I’m like half asleep here reading and you guys are making me laugh loud enough to wake up my baby. Thanks for the humor.

Not only Kerry is a gasbag but so is the writer to this story. What’s up with this guy?? Is he trying to prove his English 100 skills?? I had to look some shit up just to know what the hell he is talking about… or is it just me? And yes, they are in CYA mode because J F*kn K is going down in a ball of flames. W by 10 points when its all said and done.

I don't understand why people think JFn is such a great orator or why the MSM thinks he won the debates on "style."

I was thinking the same thing. By the time he danced around every question and blamed the president for everything under the sun, I forgot what the question was. It seemed like he worked "this president is wrong" and "I have a plan" into every response, whether it fit the subject of the question, or not. He also contradicted himself throughout the debates.

How do you respond to such rambling nonsense!

Thinking back to school days, I would really hate to diagram some of Kerry's sentences. Some of them would take up a whole page just for one sentence.

I will work with Republicans and Democrats across the aisle, openly, not with an ideological, driven, fixed, rigid concept....

But with an unprincipled, pandering, politically driven, ethically hollow one?

Kerry's Script: Most of all, I will always level with the American people.

Actual Kerry: Most of all, my fellow Americans, I pledge to you that I will always level with the American people, because it's only by leveling and telling the truth that you build the legitimacy and gain the consent of the people who ultimately we are accountable to. I will level with the American people.

Kerry's Script: I will work with Republicans and Democrats on this health care plan, and we will pass it.

Actual Kerry: I will work with Republicans and Democrats across the aisle, openly, not with an ideological, driven, fixed, rigid concept, but much like Franklin Roosevelt said, I don't care whether a good idea is a Republican idea or a Democrat idea. I just care whether or not it's gonna work for Americans and help make our country stronger. And we will pass this bill. I'll tell you a little bit about it in a minute, and I'll tell you why we'll pass it, because it's different from anything we've ever done before, despite what the Republicans want to try to tell you.

Geez, the guy's like my boss ... he'll drone on and on with off-topic anecdotes, mixed metaphors, flubbed cliches, monologues on tedious minutiae, annoying verbal tics, and 50-cent words of which he has no idea of the meanings. I often leave having no idea what he said, just like Kerry! His writing is even worse than his speech.

The guy even looks like Kerry. Work is hell.
