John Kerry's plan he doesn't want young voters to see.

[It's ironic that Kerry makes accusations of the Bush Admin. bringing the Draft back when this was Kerry's plan the whole time. This was posted on the Kerry/Edwards site then removed when the Draft e-mail began to circulate. Young American's need to know who is really behind the draft issue. It is a democratic legislation that was recently killed in congress and this is Kerry's plan oulined for you below once he gets in office.]

John Kerry Outlines Plan to Require Service for High School Students

Part of 100 days Plan to Enlist One Million Americans in National Service A Year

On September 11th, 2001, America experienced the most terrible and deadly attack in its history. John Kerry believes we need to think big and do better and get more young Americans serving the nation.

As part of his 100 day plan to change America, John Kerry will propose a comprehensive service plan that includes requiring mandatory service for high school students and four years of college tuition in exchange for two years of national service.

This was at the top:

Creating a New Army of Patriots On September 11th, 2001, America experienced the most terrible and deadly attack in its history. Yet, President Bush's response was to call on Americans to wait in long lines at airports, go shopping, or wrap their windows in plastic. As President, John Kerry will have the courage to lead and call on all Americans to make our nation stronger. Whether it is protecting America from the threats of terrorism or addressing the problems we have at home, America's new challenges will not be met by the same old answers of big government or big tax cuts for the wealthy. John Kerry will call on all Americans - tapping into the idealism and ingenuity of Americans and putting it to work on building a safer, stronger, and more secure nation. Americans already make an enormous difference in their communities, volunteering, in Boys and Girls Clubs or homeless shelters. Many Americans do full time service. John Kerry believes that in these times, we need to bolster these efforts with a nationwide commitment to national service. Whether it is a Summer of Service for our teenagers, helping young people serve their country in return for college, or the Older Americans in Service program, John Kerry's plan will call on every American of every age and every background to serve. John Kerry will set a goal of one million Americans a year in national service within the next decade.

Its a draft...but not a draft. Only Kerry would be capable of suggesting something like this. The problem will be that over 50 percent of the youth in America simply aren't going to buy into it, and will likely become "draft" dodgers. And I can't see too many state authorities enforcing this scheme if it became law. And you can bet...Kerry won't allot money to law enforcement to arrest these guys...so it will be last on their agenda.

This is basically a cheap labor trick...which will likely be a educational pay-off as part of the deal. You do two years of this and you get two years of college paid for. The problem is...where does Kerry get this money?

I guess one way for democratic socialists to avoid the label of introducing the draft,...is for them to simply mandate conscription for all teenagers.

I don't think that anyone here was going to vote for Kerry anyway, but I hope some of the lurkers from DU see this.

To have mandatory service required as a graduation requirement-uh, so much for minimum wage at the Dairy Queen as your after school job, you can work for free where they assign you under his plan.

I thought it sounded very much like the youth clubs of Nazi Germany.

In a recent Sunday show interview, Edwards said Kerry dropped his national service idea, due to budget issues. He said Kerry had also dropped some paid childcare proposal for the same reason.

Of course he was for a draft before he was against it. He's against it now, but he was for it before. What don't you understand?

One offshoot of this is that it woulkd probably be only for U.S. citizens, so you have even more young illegals filling jobs and/or illegals demanding that they be included.

The hypocrisy is astounding!

Please send this to the usual outlets; Fox, Drudge talk-radio shows. It will play well the day after JFKerry himself has been talking about the draft.

I got this letter on aol. It hits on just this subject.

Dear younger voter:

If you are my age you have undoubtedly received dozens of e-mails claiming that you are at risk of being drafted. Some claim it is only a risk if Bush is elected. Some even claim that women will be drafted as well. There are some cynical underlying intentions connected to all of these claims. These e-mails are intended to play on your fears and thus assume that you are a coward. They are intended to deceive you and thus assume that you are ignorant and incapable of finding the truth. They are intended to influence your vote and thus assume that you are so easily persuaded that an e-mail from an anonymous source can change your choice for president. The fact is that you and I are none of these things. I decided to respond to this e-mail to provide as many facts as I can but more importantly try to help provide the resources for you to make up your mind for yourself.

First lets deal with the politics. Has there been an effort to bring back the draft in Washington ? Actually, yes. However, this effort was actually introduced by two Democrats. Charlie Rangle Dem from NY introduced the proposal into the House of Representatives and it was soundly defeated with only two representatives voting for it, both dems. The most amazing thing however is that Charlie Rangle himself did not even vote for the proposal. It was purely for propaganda purposes and he said himself that he never intended it to pass. Senator Fritz Hollings, a South Carolina democrat, sponsored a senate bill for the draft. How much does it cost tax payers to have these bills introduced, debated, and defeated ? Is it just a coincidence that Rangle & HOllings introduced these bills at about the same time that these e-mails started circulating and John Kerry started talking about the draft on the campaign trail ? Please check out this link http://cayankee.blogs.com/cayankee/2004/10/house_rejects_d.html

John Kerry claimed in the debates that he was going to add two divisions (40,000 soldiers) to the military. He also complained about the overuse of the reserves and insulted these volunteers by saying they were part of a "backdoor" draft. Bush discussed moving the military out of parts of the world where they are no longer needed to fulfill our needs. In actuality which plan would more likely call for a draft ? Bush has repeatedly said he wants an all volunteer army while Kerry has repeatedly said that the present system is unfair. Here's a link to this story: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,130541,00.html

MTV's Rock the vote's homepage is covered with references to the draft. MTV/Rock the Vote is supposed to be independent but does pushing the idea of a draft, (a part of Kerry's campaign), sound independent ? More importantly, does MTV really think that because we watch their programs that we will vote the way they say ? Do they think that they can motivate us with fear tactics ? Check out their site: http://www.rockthevote.com/home.php

I signed up for the selective service as soon as I was old enough and I am proud. Do I want to be drafted ? No. However, if there was a reason to reinstate the draft I would take my chances and serve if needed. I am not a coward and I resent someone trying to scare me with false threats and resent the implication that I would change my vote over such a threat.

It is my sincere hope that the massive attempt to scare young people into changing their votes will backfire. Even if you don't vote for Bush please vote for the right reasons and take the time to get the facts straight. Whichever candidate you vote for please take the time to write the Kerry campaign and the DNC and let them know your vote will not be changed by empty threats and that us young people are stronger and more intelligent than they think.

Sincerely,
Keith Ashley
Rochester, NY

P.S. Please send & post this letter to as many young voters as you can. If you go back to the draft e-mails that were sent to you and return this letter to all in the cc list you will be helping a lot of people gain some perspective.

Is this the wave of the future? I think I've heard of a few colleges that require some "community service" for graduation. A genuinely stupid idea IMO on many counts.

It's not just 13-26 year olds he's aiming at, he's also GOT A PLAN for Senior Citizens to 'volunteer' too. Also this is a BACKDOOR TAX HIKE...coming at you from the State level due to increased college facility buildings and more profs to be hired!

hitler's youth core is alive and well under a Pres sKerry...sweetened with YOUR tax dollars.

National Service Plan Highlights "Service for College" Initiative http://web.archive.org/web/20040210043828/http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/natservice/

As President, John Kerry will call on young people to help strengthen America's security and address unmet community needs. In return, he believes we should offer young Americans and their families the opportunity for a college education. A Kerry Administration will offer Americans the chance to earn the equivalent of their state's four-year public college tuition in exchange for two years of service. If service members decide not to go to college, their award can be used for job training or to help start a business. John Kerry will set a national goal of half a million young people serving their nation every year within ten years. President Bush promised to double AmeriCorps, but he broke that promise and let Congressional Republicans cut the program in half. John Kerry believes we need to think big and do better and get 500,000 young Americans serving the nation.

100,000 Older Americans in Service http://web.archive.org/web/20040210043828/http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/natservice/

As President, John Kerry will defend and strengthen vital programs such as Medicare and Social Security, but he also believes on calling on America's seniors to give their time, experience, and expertise to an America that needs their help. As President, John Kerry would create the Retired Not Tired Program. By mentoring students, helping the infirm, or working in their communities for 10 hours a week, members can earn up to $2,000 a year tax free that they can apply to an education grant for a family member or a member of their community. Alternatively, seniors will be able to use these funds to defray their own health care costs. John Kerry plans to engage 100,000 seniors a year in service in the next decade.

High School Service Requirement http://web.archive.org/web/20040210043828/http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/natservice/

As President, John Kerry will ensure that every high school student in America performs community service as a requirement for graduation. This service will be a rite of passage for our nation’s youth and will help foster a lifetime of service. States would design service programs that meet their community and educational needs. However, John Kerry does not believe in unfunded mandates. No state would be obligated to implement a service requirement if the federal government does not live up to its obligation to fund the program.

Creating a New Community Defense Service http://web.archive.org/web/20040210043828/http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/natservice/

John Kerry believes we must create a new Community Defense Service to be guided by our nation’s first responders. This service would be comprised of hundreds of thousands of Americans in neighborhoods all over the country. Service captains would be there to make sure our communities have the information they need and are ready to respond a crisis, complimenting but not supplanting the work done by police, fire fighters, and other first defenders. Volunteer Service Captains would receive training and education to assist their communities in the event of an attack. They would be trained to help identify local health professionals and experts in the area, provide information on local evacuation or quarantine plans, and stand ready to be of assistance to first defenders. This initiative would be funded out of the Department of Homeland Security and administered by local community leaders, including first responders. This 'surge' capacity would be in addition to the expanded numbers of first responders John Kerry has already proposed hiring.

A Summer of Service for Teenagers http://web.archive.org/web/20040210043828/http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/natservice/

Thirteen to seventeen year olds are too old for child care and too young for many summer jobs. John Kerry believes we should tap their energy and idealism through a summer of service learning. Supervised by AmeriCorps members, these young people could help out in nursing homes, clean up local areas, or teach seniors computer skills. In turn, they would receive a $500 grant to apply to their college or vocational educations down the road. Parents do not want to leave their children alone all summer but most cannot afford other means of care. The Summer of Service program would give parents peace of mind and at the same time build more responsible and dedicated young citizens and stronger, more vibrant communities.

A Rebirth of the Peace Corps http://web.archive.org/web/20040210043828/http://www.johnkerry.com/issues/natservice/

If there was ever a time that everyday people in developing countries around the world needed to see idealistic, hard-working Americans struggling to help them succeed, it is today, in the aftermath of September 11th. Peace Corps members are the greatest ambassadors of goodwill and foot soldiers for democratization this nation has - and we need more of them. John Kerry believes we need a major expansion of the Peace Corps for this new century and in this new era. In the White House, John Kerry will push to expand the Peace Corps to 25,000 members.
