ABC to air documentary on Kerry in Vietnam

New York, NY, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- ABC TV has produced and will air next week a documentary on the Vietnam War fight that has both distinguished and dogged John Kerry's presidential campaign.

Kerry has not hesitated to invoke his status as a war hero, gained partly for a 1969 incident when he was commanding a river boat in Vietnam, in seeking to win Democratic Party's nomination and in campaigning against President Bush, ABC News reported Friday.

But the 1969 incident for which Kerry won a Silver Star has also been the focus of one of his most virulent enemies, the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, who charge that all the senator-to-be did that day was shoot one wounded Vietnamese teenage boy in the back as he fled.

Recently ABC interviewed survivors of that skirmish, and it plans to broadcast the results of those interviews on Thursday at 11:35 p.m. EDT.

Interviewees include those who witnessed Kerry's boat approach the village of Nah Vi, saw fighting and knew both casualties and survivors.

An anti-Kerry documentary focusing on his anti-war activities is also expected to air over Sinclair Broadcasting channels before the election.

OK, so where's the equal time?

Do Republicans scream?

Just how was it that ABC even FOUND this village?

Lots of questions....

You forgot that at ABC, one must be unfair to the Republicans to be fair to the Democrats.

Holy cow! They are really pulling out all the stops. What's amazing is that there still are liberal idiots who insist that the mainstream media isn't in the pockets of the Democrats.

I saw the Nightline about this last night. There were so many absurdities involved (the teenage boy Kerry admits shooting alone behind the hooch was actually a big scary 26 year old Vietcong who wasn't shot dead by anybody behind a hooch, but they are sure that this is the guy Kerry shot, though nobody there saw Kerry or anybody else shoot him), it won't help Kerry one bit. It will just keep reminding people that there are lots of questions about his accounts of his war heroics.

Maybe it's time to start e-mailing ABC that we know about Halperin's father working for Soros and people in pajamas are anxiously awaiting this documentary.

ABC has been taking editing lessons from Miserable Moore and CBS...they're anxious to try their new hacking technique and the result will be that Kerry praised the troops, dontchya know?

I'd like to see them do an expose of Koppel's rug! THAT would be interesting.

I wonder what's going to be different from last night's Koppel whuppin.

Why, that's simple. They won't have John O'Neill on to discredit this. Nobody there to point out that the accounts provided by the Vietnamese contradict Kerry's own account.

And they'll get away with it.

Note also that the Silver Star incident is far from "the focus" of the Swift Boat Vets. The allegations about the first Purple Heart are far more damaging. The Silver Star thing comes down to a he-said-she-said situation, with no real proof on either side. But you'll never find an MSM outlet investigating that critical Purple Heart.

Good for you ABC, go the same way as CBS and Rather. . .and suffer their fate. Sure, you are doing a positive piece on Kerry as opposed to a hit piece on Bush, but we know. We know that you are only telling one side of this story. We know you don't have the guts to interview John O'Neil or to truly look into the Swiftvets accusations. The viewers know and the American people increasingly (by the day) know. We all know that you are not just biased, but without any integrity and honesty.

So aire your wittle piece and continue to watch your ratings slump and continue to blame it on the "stupidity" of the viewership. P.S. Thanks for inspiring me to donate to the Swifties. If you won't grant them equal time, I will help them purchase it themselves.

Just how was it that ABC even FOUND this village?

The communist government of Vietnam (the one that recognizes John Kerry as a hero of their struggle and has a vested interest in insuring he wins the election) arranged Nightline’s entry into the country and provided them with a captain who could take them right to the village, where they could meet people who vividly remember this specific firefight (its never really explained why this particular firefight stuck out so vividly in a decade-long war on their river) almost forty years later and can confirm that John Kerry was telling the truth, even though their account is completely different than John Kerry’s account.

The whole thing is a bit too nuanced for non-Democratic minds to wrap their clear-thinking heads around.

Halperin Memo Dated Friday October 8, 2004

It goes without saying that the stakes are getting very high
for the country and the campaigns - and our responsibilities become quite grave
I do not want to set off (sp?) and endless colloquy that none of us have time for today
- nor do I want to stifle one.
Please respond if you feel you can advance the discussion.
The New York Times (Nagourney/Stevenson) and Howard Fineman
on the web both make the same point today: the current Bush attacks
on Kerry involve distortions and taking things out of context in a way
that goes beyond what Kerry has done.
Kerry distorts, takes out of context, and mistakes all the time, but these are not central to his (ed. ABC-supported) efforts to win.
We have a responsibility to hold both sides accountable to the public interest,
but that doesn't mean we reflexively and artificially hold both sides
"equally" accountable when the facts don't warrant that.
I'm sure many of you have this week felt the stepped up Bush efforts
to complain about our coverage.
This is all part of their efforts to get away with as
much as possible with the stepped up, renewed efforts
to win the election by destroying Senator Kerry at least partly through distortions.

It's up to Kerry to defend himself, of course.
But as one of the few news organizations with the skill and strength to help voters evaluate what the
candidates are saying to serve the public interest.
Now is the time for all of us to step up and do that right.

And who is Halperin?

BREAKING:
Halperin's father is none other than Morton H. Halperin,
head of George Soros' Open Society Policy Center.
