Caviezel Helps to Get Out the Vote!
Family News ^ | October 11th, 2004 | Steve Jordahl

We're used to seeing liberal movie stars getting political—now a conservative from Hollywood is asking you to vote.

In a rare conservative push from Hollywood, Jim Caviezel — the man who played Jesus in "The Passion" — has produced a streaming e-mail campaign to encourage millions of Christians to register now and to vote in November. The crusade is being organized by Redeem the Vote.

The message is simple: "Hi, I'm Jim Caviezel. Please register to vote and cast your ballot on November 2."

Randy Brinson of Redeem the Vote said it is rare for a conservative movie star to be heard above the din of liberal actors.

"He's gone out and taken a risk," Brinson said, "[and] taken a stand for Christ. I think it's imperative that we as Christians rally behind him . . . All the energy that was put into "The Passion" to get people mobilized, to get people energized to understand what out Savior did for us, that needs to be turned in to action."

Caviezel's message has been e-mailed to millions of potential conservative voters, who simply need to open the e-mail to hear his plea. Peter Brandt, senior director of government and public policy at Focus on the Family, is impressed.

"I think it will be very effective," Brandt said. "This is a tremendously creative way to reach out to people and remind them of the importance of voter registration and of voting."

He said it's a message the real Jesus would endorse as well.

Prior to enlisting Caviezel, Redeem the Vote had already registered close to 50,000 voters on their Web site and at Christian concerts. Brandt, meanwhile, said it's not enough just to register — you have to also show up at the polls on November 2.

Brandt also added that the voter registration deadline in almost all states is coming up very soon — so don't miss your chance to vote. TAKE ACTION: Focus on the Family has created a voter registration Web site called iVoteValues.org.

The site offers a step-by-step method to help you when you go to your local board of elections office.

I love this man and admire his courage for standing up for his values in liberal Hollywood.

I figured since the guys always had to have their 'chick' pics on threads that us girls need a visual too.

Jim is MUCH nicer to look at than any nasty Tim Robbins, Sean Penn, Alec Baldwin or any of the other Kerry cretins in Hollyweird.

Yes, equal time, anytime. Conservative men and women are mature enough to handle (and enjoy!) visual examples of prime specimens of the opposite gender.

I'd trade a rib for my wife anyday! Thanks God!

Yes, he is only an actor, but he is voicing his opinions in the proper environment and in the proper way - not by deriding those who don't share his views or shoving his opinions down anyone's throats.

This is the best post I've seen all day.

He's a Catholic, and had an audience with the Pope this spring.

I think Jim would be great in a role as Ronald Reagan
or maybe "Adam" or "Noah"

Yes he sure has!

I hope he gets nominated for the Academy Award but of course slimy Hollywood will proably ignore him...

Hey, I like him too. I just have trouble getting warm fuzzies about any Hollywood types. Its the same to me as finding out my UPS guy is voting for Bush. Good for him. Where's my package?

I've heard he's going to be the next Superman.

He probably just got himself blacklisted.
