Car Explosion In Weehawken, NJ
Weehawken-WABC ^ | October 7, 2004 | WABC

Posted on 10/07/2004 10:01:13 AM PDT by Calpernia

— Early Thursday morning, a car blew up near a home in Weehawken, New Jersey.

Authorities say the victim appeared to be sitting in the driver's seat when the car exploded in front of 76 Hackensack Plank Road just before 7:00 a.m.

People nearby say they heard a loud explosion and saw a large, dark plume of smoke shoot up from the car. The blast was powerful enough to blow out nearby car windows, and it sent debris flying onto nearby homes.

Authorities say the blast may be tied to some sort of ongoing domestic dispute.

"It's my understanding - initially, preliminarily - that it's a domestic dispute of some type," said state police spokesman Sgt. Kevin Rehmann said. "There's evidence that there may have been explosives involved."

The explosion happened on a winding road, near homes overlooking the Lincoln Tunnel. Authorities stress it was not in any way related to terrorism.

Firefighters put out the flaming car and taped off the street to investigate.

You read my mind on that one. "Family," not "domestic."

I think it's just continuation in the years-long battle between the Weehawken and the Carnasie style of Mambo.

And the fire is still burning. 15 guys should have been able to stomp that fire out with their boots by now. :)

IIRC, jet fuel isn't explosive unless atomized to ppm or ppb, while an almost empty gas tank IS a freaking bomb.

Anything will explode if atomized. Dust has blown up a lot of grain elevators. Jet fuel is just kerosene. Quite stable.

Anybody see a missile-like object flying towards the car?

No, but the authorities have proof that the vehicle proceeded down the street, executed a complex 5-point turn, and then parallel parked in it's current location.

Same as any other simple traffic accident.

Wouldn't suspect the Muslims unless this happened in Paterson, Clifton or JC.

Sounds more like a mob hit, doesn't it?

They still haven't released the name. Normally I would write it off as probably a mob hit or an accident. I really don't like to go into tin foil mode but it happened pretty close to the Lincoln Tunnel and we did have what seemed to be coordinated attacks in Iraq, Israel, Pakistan and Kabul today. Wondering if the car exploded prematurely.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see when they release the name of the deceased.

Unless it was an "industrial accident," I don't see it being the work of islamofascists.

>>>Unless it was an "industrial accident," I don't see it being the work of islamofascists.

Why not left wing recruitment? The left has been exercising more and more blatant terroristic tactics.

LOL! Haven't heard that 'blue/blew' joke in awhile.

I first heard it about Christa McAuliffe after the Challenger unpleasantness. But a venerable joke like that may have a life of it's own and a distinguished pedigree with many re-incarnations.

Makes you wonder why they said 'domestic dispute'. That building looks like an aluminum office.

So, it wasn't in front of a home

and we are assuming they didn't know the identity since it wasn't released.

What made them think it was domestic?
