Car Explosion In Weehawken, NJ
Weehawken-WABC ^ | October 7, 2004 | WABC

— Early Thursday morning, a car blew up near a home in Weehawken, New Jersey.

Authorities say the victim appeared to be sitting in the driver's seat when the car exploded in front of 76 Hackensack Plank Road just before 7:00 a.m.

People nearby say they heard a loud explosion and saw a large, dark plume of smoke shoot up from the car. The blast was powerful enough to blow out nearby car windows, and it sent debris flying onto nearby homes.

Authorities say the blast may be tied to some sort of ongoing domestic dispute.

"It's my understanding - initially, preliminarily - that it's a domestic dispute of some type," said state police spokesman Sgt. Kevin Rehmann said. "There's evidence that there may have been explosives involved."

The explosion happened on a winding road, near homes overlooking the Lincoln Tunnel. Authorities stress it was not in any way related to terrorism.

Firefighters put out the flaming car and taped off the street to investigate.

LOL. Nah, if "work related" the move along has already been decided on (domestic violence)

Also full of the mafia types!! This is probably a hit by the mafia...that's usually the way they do things. Besides only the driver got killed...sounds like a contract hit to me.

Some years ago a disgruntled customer shot up a GMAC office near me. I don't think individual acts qualify as terrorism, unless they're organized crime.

Well, NJ is full of illegal alien muslim scum, go figure. They are reaping the rewards of their nurturing multi-culturalism and diversity tolerance.

But of course the Italian mafia that preceded them by 100 years certainly has never engaged in any violence...

That's some sharp detective work there, Lt. Drebbin.

By the look of those pictures, this line doesn't describe the area correctly...Possibly to incite fear? THis looks like a business section and not in a very busy one at that.

From the looks of it, that's the warehouse area just outside the tunnel, right around the various access roads.

It's about as mobbed-up as any area in the state, and that's saying something in this state. If you blow up building down there, the streets would likely be littered with the corpses of people who died in the 1970s.

And when all awas said and done with the clean up crew, the foreman was still left with giving the finger to the police detective
