I ran the Boston Marathon in 1980 and my time was 2:51 minutes. Everyone that runs knows their exact time and the year they run. Marathons are important personal events. Newspapers in the Boston area even print the finishers and their times. There would be photos everywhere of John "Live Shot" Kerry if he ran this race. Something is WRONG with his story.
Maybe there's some film left from his restaging of the event.
I ran the Hospital Hill marathon in Kansas City in '77, '78 & '79 at 3:43, 3:29 and 3:31 respectively and they were not good enough to get me into the Boston marathon, not that I really wanted to run it, but still I remember the years and the times and have pictures and posters in my scrapbooks.
I'm sure Kerry took photos of this event and he should make them public!
Hey did you know he served in Vietnam and was under enemy fire on several occasions?. How dare you question his athletic running record. I mean a hero and such is beyond reproach. (sarcasm off).
Yeah, and you have a photograph of yourself at the finish line with the time. No one runs the Boston Marathon without a photograph of themselves performing the feat, much less a politician from MA who re-enacted in 8 mm his Vietnam derring do.
Hey Bunky, that's a great time you ran...are you running anymore?
I've finished 10 marathons since the late '70s. I was a middle of the pack runner in all of 'em, but the finishing times for each of the races are seared, seared in my memory ...
Plus, didn't Boston require a qualifying marathon time, even back then? So he'd have to have run TWO marathons.
The only way his story makes any sense is if he ran it without officially entering the race, which has been known to happen. But for someone as high-profile (and press-seeking) as Kerry, that seems pretty unlikely.
