Group urges CBS to air report critical of Bush (we should counter MoveOn.org)

Moveon.org, the influential Web-based group in support of John Kerry's presidential bid, petitioned its members yesterday to contact CBS in an effort to get the network to air an investigative "60 Minutes II" piece that was shelved in the wake of the now-debunked story on President George W. Bush's National Guard service.

Representatives of the group said 5,000 members had called or e-mailed CBS, although that number could not be independently verified.

A network spokeswoman said she was unaware of the Moveon.org campaign, and referred a reporter to a weekend statement that said, in part, that "it would be inappropriate to air the report so close to the presidential election."

The shelved story, by veteran investigative producer David Gelber and correspondent Ed Bradley, reported how the Bush administration and intelligence agencies had used forged documents to prove Iraq had received a shipment of uranium from Niger.

Bush had made a reference to the shipment in his 2003 State of the Union address before the war.

The piece was originally scheduled to air Sept. 8, but was pre-empted at the last minute when "60 Minutes" got documents that were alleged to have been written by Bush's former National Guard commander.

CBS later admitted it could not ascertain whether the documents were authentic.

Then, the Niger piece was pushed to the Sept. 29 broadcast. CBS pulled the segment again, and it is now expected to be aired sometime after the election.

"We're demanding that CBS air this," said Peter Schurman, Moveon.org's executive director. He said the piece's postponement was "for political reasons."

Gelber and Bradley could not be reached to comment.

But if Kerry did so well, and he's pulling ahead, after his marvelous performance, why would they want to risk backlash?

Counter Moveon by lobbying all of the main stream media to run stories on Vote Fraud.

If they were to do that, the DNC would go down in flames and all of their "critical news" peices wouldn't do much good...

See this article for truly DAMAGING evidence...

'We're' not stopping CBS in the first place. Broadcasting such a report now after their Rathergate disaster would destroy any remaining shreds of CBS's credibility, and CBS knows it. That's the only reason they're not showing it now.

Which is WHY we should get a campaign going to get CBS to air it!!! We WANT them to keep doing what they're doing!!! Everything they touch now turns to lead (and weighs down the Kerry campaign :) ).

Yeah, I agree. If we do anything, we need to press CBS to shoot itself in the head again. Make 'em show it!

Love the wording of the article. Probably CBS forgot to mention that the agent who supplied the information was working for the French intelligence service. And I thought there were other sources of the Iraqi attempt to get the nuclear material besides this one.
