McDermott's Conspiracies (The Point)
News Central ^ | October 3, 2004 | Mark Hyman

Jim McDermott believes in conspiracies. You may remember Baghdad Jim. The Seattle area Congressman went to Baghdad two years ago in a show of support for Saddam Hussein. While there, he denounced U.S. foreign policy and UN sanctions. His constituents must be so proud.

When Saddam was captured last December, McDermott argued that U.S. troops knew of Saddam's whereabouts for a long time, but delayed capturing him in order to achieve a public relations coup on behalf of President Bush.

Jim McDermott also participates in conspiracies -- at least according to the courts. A federal judge found McDermott guilty in a civil case over his role in illegal phone recordings. A pair of Democratic operatives illegally taped a telephone conversation between then-House Speaker Newt Gingrich and House leaders in 1996. They gave the tape to McDermott who was a member of the House Ethics Committee. McDermott released the tape to the press even though he was informed it was illegally obtained. What a wonderful guardian of ethics he was.

One of the Congressmen recorded on the tape sued McDermott. U.S. District Court Judge Thomas Hogan recently found McDermott guilty in the civil suit. A ruling to determine the amount of punitive damages and attorneys costs that McDermott must pay is expected anytime.

Perhaps McDermott thinks the court conspired against him.

Baghdad Jim faces reelection this November.

And that's the Point.

I'm Mark Hyman.

They are, frighteningly enough.

Very well done. We'll know there's still a ray of hope for the state of Washington on the day that Baghdad Jim and Patty Osama are both voted out of office.

He wouldn't stand a chance against Bagdad Bob. I like Bob.
He put a lot of humor into the early days of the war.

I freeped him a few years ago at the Westlake Center. He was coming down an escalator as I was going up. He had just started dialing with his cell phone. I made eye contact as we passed each other and asked him, "excuse me -- should I start recording now?"

I don't think he was amused.

I'm afraid Baghdad Jim has a congressional job for life. He took over scumwad Mike Lowry's old slot. Same district, same supporters, and same agenda. I really hope the Repub candidate (can't remember the name though,) gives him a real tussle. His district is the reputed home of the Black Mafia, plus the usual ghetto suspects, the rising Russian Mafia, and the increasing Asian Gangs infiltrating this CD. It's a liberal mess, and the liberals all over the state like things just the way they are.

Good one.

I have a conspiracy theory of my own:

Jim McDermott is the mastermind behind the Dems that broke into Washington State Bush/Cheney Headquarters.

The difference is mine might well be true.

Oh, and just so nobody outside the state gets excited: McDermott could rape a 13 year old girl and get WAY fewer votes...he might only get 60% if he did that as opposed to his usual 75%.

So don't get your hopes up.

The losers, druggies, mental defectives, hippies, weirdos and wack jobs that live on Capitol Hill will vote for McDermott no matter what he does. His re-election is assured, unfortunately.

Like D.C. when they constantly voted for Marion Berry?

If he raped a 13 year old boy they'd wave the formality of the election requirement for life.
