According to what was just said on FOX someone in the Kerry Kamp claimed this was a debate not a gameshow and the lights look "goofy."

Carl Cameron said it was Meehan that made the "rip out the lights" threat. He also said it was the Kerry camp's contention that they just sent out a rabbit for the media to chase this afternoon. That they were trying to manage expectations.
Kerry's New Position Statement on the Lights: "We're certainly in favor of the lights, but not the current implementation of the lights. If we'd known they were going to f*** up the implementation of the lights so badly, we never would've voted for the lights."
