September 29, 2004 -- The Justice Department has charged that a veteran New York Times foreign correspondent warned an alleged terror-funding Islamic charity that the FBI was about to raid its office potentially endangering the lives of federal agents. The stunning accusation was disclosed yesterday in legal papers related to a lawsuit the Times filed in Manhattan federal court.
The suit seeks to block subpoenas from the Justice Department for phone records of two of its Middle Eastern reporters Philip Shenon and Judith Miller as part of a probe to track down the leak.
The Times last night flatly denied the allegation.
U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald of Chicago charged in court papers that Shenon blew the cover on the Dec. 14, 2001, raid of the Global Relief Foundation the first charges of their kind under broad new investigatory powers given to the feds under the Patriot Act.
"It has been conclusively established that Global Relief Foundation learned of the search from reporter Philip Shenon of The New York Times," Fitzgerald said in an Aug. 7, 2002, letter to the Times' legal department.
He said he understood journalists' concerns about protecting the identities of their sources, but national security and preventing leaks that thwart probes into "terrorist fund-raising" trump such confidentiality.

Can we declare the New York Times a terrorist organization?
That sums it up!
My guess is that Plame or someone else in the CIA was feeding Wilson the foreign relations information and the stupid, arrogant reporters at the NYT opened it all up with their insistence of an investigation of the Plame leak.
Wasn't Miller the one the Slimes hung out to dry a few months ago, claiming that her "pro war" stance had "slanted" her coverage in favor of the Bush Administration (try real hard not to gag on that eyeroller)?
Yes---that was niggling at the back of my brain and I couldn't recall exactly what they had said. You are correct.
Fox News doing a report on this story. Basically summarizing this article.
What am I missing here? Judith Miller is the good guy? Right?
You wouldn't happen to have a repository of links, would you?

It's also notable that Novak is the only reporter who has not fought to prevent revelation of his sources or actively pursued a legal stategy.
Are you just now getting the explanation about JFKerry's vote?
Yes. Just now getting his explanation.
JFKerry need to show...
True. But his explanation may also be true...
Let me paint both the Republican and Democratic positions in the worst possible light...which might explain to you why I hate this election.
No matter how bad Bush might be, the Muslims are infinitely worse. The Democratic Left can't see that and Kerry can't afford to ignore them.
But Bush and his Administration might be crooks and fools of the worst sort. Crooks because they may actually value tax cuts and juicy contracts for their wealthy friends and supporters ahead of properly manning and funding the occupation of Iraq. Fools of the worst sort because they're not ignorant in the way a school-boy is ignorant but are rather blinded by arrogance and self-righteousness.
Please let it gain more legs - if all the speculation on this this is true, it'll make Rathergate look like a playground shoving match.
Uh-oh!
Don't these dimwits know there is a war going on??????
Loose lips sink ships!
They do know it. That's why the Times is helping them.
It's all getting to be too much.
Another investigation that will go nowhere.
I really don't keep a bunch of links nor keep a ping list. Searching on Wilson or Plame keywords or in an article title should bring up scads of articles.
My working theory is Judith Miller is a good guy, yes.
I haven't seen anything yet to indicate otherwise.
Thanks, that reaffirms my faith in her.
That's what I've been wondering about through all of these stories -- who the h--- is doing all the leaking from the FBI and CIA, and when will we see some of the Clinton/Kerry moles in those agencies exposed and prosecuted??? Unfortunately, when we have liberal reporters in cahoots with Democratic mole operatives in sensitive agencies, both parties have the strongest possible incentives never to cooperate with the Dept of Justice in stopping this nonsense.
All you regulars don't yell at me..I'm a newbie. I went through my papers and found this that the washington Times ran on July 20, about Wilson, his wife getting him the job, and Wilson trip to Niger. Bear with me. I have to type it out....http://www.washingtontimes.com/commentary/20040719-084057-3820r.htm
