Here is another picture of what is needed.

That the national party threw lots of support to Cannon, just like they did Toomey in Pennsylvania.
What? The people in Utah and Pennsylvania were made to vote for the wrong candidate.
There's no excuse. The people are responsible for their own vote. The people in that Utah district voted for the weaker candidate on illegal immigration even though they had every chance not to. And this, from a district teaming with conservatives.
And the freeping same thing goes for the people in Pennsylvania too.

Brigadier Yep, I liked Pat, Mr. Pooh, but I voted for Bush because I was afraid Gore would win.

How many troops would be required for deterrence, for the thousands of miles of borders that we have? How many troops do we have in Germany? In Bosnia?
The question remains unanswered.
To: FreeReign
No, the voters made their choice. But it was hardly a stand up fight in the battle of ideas. More like Mike Tyson and a couple buddies rolling down to the local 24 Hour Fitness and picking a fight.

Don't I wish -- the photo is smack dab in the middle of the Naco Corridor. It's one of the most popular crossing points on the entire border.

You've got me. I';m not the Pentagon. But the basic point is that government has one major duty and that is securing the border. "It's too hard" is not an acceptable excuse.
To: radicalamericannationalist
1992. the last time the GOP actually took a stand on that issue. Oh yeah, also the last time a Republican won a normal election in CA for governor. And then we have a recall, a major issue of which was illegal alien drivers licenses and the governor who signed that in too law got booted. Gee, I wonder if their might be a lesson in those facts. Fact. California keeps electing mostly liberal, pro illegal immigration politico-turds, who in turn keep appointing some of the most liberal pro illegal immigration judges in the country.
Gee, do you actually think there isn't a lesson there?
To: TLI
In short, there is NO REASON why this county can not close the mexican border and Bush playing the toe in the dirt aw shucks "can't be done" routine is just politricks, nothing more. I actually don't think it's just politics --- open borders doesn't get anyone votes --- there is no evidence that the public wants open borders or votes for either candidate on the basis of that. Except many of the Mexican citizens would vote on the basis of that.
I think it's something else --- the problems in Mexico are pretty bad and getting worse --- it's what happens if anything is done to slow immigration to the USA --- and that is a revolution. Our political leaders think that the corrupt Mexican government at least provides some kind of stability, plus there is a lot of big money at stake for many businesses and others who have moved factories to Mexico. If the Revolution breaks out --- the government will collapse, the elites will flee Mexico and it's going to be anarchy and chaos and a big loss of money for some who get rich from Mexico. We don't want that --- so we keep the current system propped up --- and immigration is an essential part of keeping it propped up.

After reading much of this thread I almost feel like doing a Sneaky Pete and just abandoning it. If a conservative web site is full of people willing to sell out American for cheap labor, I think the country is truly surely dead. It just hasn't been buried yet.Amen bro. Sometimes, I feel like packing it in. A country that won't even protect its borders in wartime won't last long, nor, perhaps, should it.

Militarization will mean numerous Mexican kills and casualties. A whole lot of people will care.Wrong. They are dying in droves NOW, packed into unventilated trucks, flipping over in vans going 100 the wrong way on highways, and dying of thirst in the desert.
A serious policy, well advertised, would lead to far FEWER deaths, when the coyotes quit the business as unprofitable, do to the 99% chance of being arrested and jailed at hard labor.

Fact. After Wilson, the state GOP dropped immigration as an issue. The fact that our last candidate in a regular election ran a campaign that made a high school election look sophisticated by comparison might have something to do with it too. And that was too bad because Simon was a good candidate, just not experienced for a knife fight with Gray Davis.

What would your fair tax proposal do to discourage al Queda types from waltzing over?
Nothing.
I'd propose a Swiss/Israeli type scheme to defend the homeland. An assault rifle in every closet does wonders for discouraging unwanted guests.
They're not looking to take jobs. They're looking to take lives.
Gee, -- who would have guessed..
So the assault rifle n the closet will take down the next airplane flying into the office building?
-- So, -- is your middle name 'pointless hype'?
You mention this is the Israeli model. The Israeli model is also the militarization of their border and the erecting of a security barrier. Yeah, maybe we do agree on using Israel as a model.
Whatever kiddo. When & if you get a real point to make, call someone who cares.

Fact. After Wilson, the state GOP dropped immigration as an issue. The demographics have changed sharply since 92. The politicians see that. That's why they don't care about immigration.
That's why I referred to the Wilson election as last century.

Politics is the world's second oldest profession. It resembles the world's oldest profession, but is less respectable and results in even less savory bedfellows.

Yes but the Hispanic folk take about as dim a view of illegals as everyone else. Turns out people don;t like line cutters. Go figure.

If you are against any form of government ID, there is no way to know if they are "legal" "illegal" or from what country they are from.Ding! Ding! Ding!
Exactly!

If you can't or won't quantify a problem, you can't identify it as a problem.
If you can't identify it as a problem, you can't be held responsible for fixing the problem.
The mantra of our government.
