CONTROVERSIAL TEXAS RANCHER SAYS LOCKHART WANTED DOCUMENTS //

The source of a disputed CBSNEWS report claimed Thursday that Kerry adviser Joe Lockhart tried to "convince me as to why I should give them the documents." Texas Army National Guard Lt. Col. Bill Burkett tells the FORT WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM that he has suffered four seizures since being identified as CBS' source and dogged by the media... Developing...

I definitely see Burkett as both a "cut-out" figure (meant to be the front for dissemination of the documents and a potential "fall-guy" if anything should go wrong (easy to discredit as mentally unbalanced and lacking in credibility). Given the article he wrote on Aug. 13, I think there's very good reason to believe he had nothing to do with these documents before that date. Whether he created them after writing that article, or someone else created them, is hard to settle at this time. My sense is that the forger is more likely to be someone associated with the 527 "Texans for Truth" which obviously timed its emergence on the public scene to the week in which the CBS story moved forward. The scurrilous website Democrats.com also could yield some interesting leads, since that is where Burkett published his article complaining that there seemed to be no documents from Killian certifying any problems with Bush. If someone could prove any connection with the "Texans for Truth" and/or Democracy.com that would be really interesting to know of any ties they have with the DNC and/or the Kerry campaign.

Yeah, but I give Drudge the benefit of the doubt...and besides, he didn't claim his sources to be "unimpeachable."

Why Kinkos instead of just handing them from Burkett to Mapes?

According to Burkett, he stored the ''documents'' at a location about 100 miles from his ranch, so possibly he didn't have the papers in his possession when he talked to Mapes? From the USA Today article:

After keeping the copies for a couple of days, he said he drove to a location he would not specify, about 100 miles from his ranch, to put them ''in cold storage.'' Burkett said he took the action because he believed the papers were politically explosive and made him nervous. ''I treated them like absolute TNT,'' he said. ''They looked to me like they were devastating.''

Then again, do we really know WHO faxed the papers? Could be Mapes or someone picked them up from Burkett at his ranch & eagerly faxed them to NYC...as in really anxious to deliver the goods to Dan?

You are correct -

Bill Burkett : Texas Army National Guard
George W Bush : Texas Air National Guard

Dan Rather's "sorry" speech on BCS again said Bill Burkett was in the Air National Guard -

After all the alleged research and fact checking after Dan Rather and CBS were exposed we are now expected to believe that Dan Rather and his producers and editors have not again wilfully, knowingly, and with deliberate malice and intent to deceive CBS viewers and listeners told another big lie to tie Bill Burkett to Lt. George W. Bush as if BB urkett was in the same military branch with easy access to "alleged" Bush documents from 1972?

Rather and CBS cannot be that stupid can they?

Rather and CBS know full well Burkett was Texas army National Guard while Lt. George W. Bush was in the Texas Air National Guard.

Is Rather's and CBS' excuse now that they are incompetent and inaccurate and idiots even after knowing they were under the scrutiny of Buckhead, Freepers, Powerline, Drudge, Newsmax, and the Washington Post for many days?

The Kerry/CBS/DNC fraud and conspiracy continues!

I'm sure they're going to try at every step of the way. Their problem is reacting to us. We move way faster than the dinosaur MSM.

Is it possible that this is a "tomorrow" story that just isn't posted online yet????...Joe Scarborough- on his show tonight - said they called the paper to confirm it after reading the excerpt on Drudge...I thought I heard him say they did confirm it - but was typing at the same time - so maybe someone else heard that???? Anyone???

Fine. These documents are bogus. Meantime, where is the outrage for the ongoing beheadings in Iraq?

Where is your outrage? I say stay focussed on the task at hand. Kill jihadists.

Get on with the task. Tell President Bush.

Who woke Lockhart up to take the phone call? Remember he slept in Moscow while Air Force 1 was leaving with Billy Clintooooon!

I think on him as the Huntz Hall of politics!
