An Army Bradley fighting vehicle patrols Baghdad’s Shiite slum of Sadr City on Wednesday. Fifteen Iraqis were killed in clashes between Shiite militants and U.S. troops in the restive Baghdad neighborhood, an official from Moqtada al-Sadr’s radical Shiite movement said. The mobile homes in Sadr City are full of diversely constructed dwellings.

The Russian nuclear submarine Vepr heads into Brest harbor in western France on Tuesday, after a series of exercises in the Atlantic with French navy ships. The Vepr is part of Russia’s Northern Fleet and the first Russian nuclear-powered submarine ever to visit a foreign port. The nuclear weapons it usually carries were taken off for the visit. Western France is soon to be a well recognized anachronism as the French turn more and more eastward and into irrelevancy. Thanks for nothing Frenchies!

Men at a Baghdad, Iraq, barbershop watch the television broadcast of a man identifying himself as British hostage Kenneth Bigley pleading with British Prime Minister Tony Blair to help save his life, Thursday Sept. 23, 2004. Two American hostages who were kidnapped with Bigley were beheaded earlier in the week by their captors.
Perhaps it is just me, but the last place I want to be when watching news about beheadings is in a barber chair.
