Mugabe blasts 'god Bush'

Mugabe blasts 'god Bush' New York - Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe, long a thorn in the side of the United States and Britain, drew applause at the United Nations on Wednesday for a scathing speech that tore into the Iraq war allies.

Mugabe blasted the two nations for holding up reform of the UN Security Council in "calculated" attempts at trying to preserve their influence at the United Nations.

"Ironically, it is some of the same forces that since last year have been raining bombs and hellfire on innocent Iraqis, purportedly in the name of democracy," he said.

"Iraq today has become a vast inferno created by blatant and completely illegal and defiant acts of aggression by the United States, Britain and their allies," Mugabe said.

"We are now being coerced to accept and believe that a new political-cum-religious doctrine has arisen, namely that 'There is but one political god, George W Bush, and Tony Blair is his prophet,'" he said.

That line, a play on a well-known saying of Islamic prayer, drew applause from diplomats gathered at the UN General Assembly on hand for the annual two-week debate of world leaders.

Mugabe also condemned Britain's work for his ouster, including sanctions against his country.

"Zimbabwe has also had to withstand unprovoked, declared and undeclared sanctions, imposed by Britain and its allies who are bent on bringing down our legitimately elected government," he said.

"Mr Tony Blair, the British prime minister, has arrogantly and unashamedly announced in his parliament that his government was working with Zimbabwe's opposition party to bring about regime change," he said.

"Once again, the lawless nature of this man who, along with his Washington master, believes he is God-ordained to rule our world, has shown itself," Mugabe said.

He is not travelling to the US, per se> he is travelling to the UN.

Sanctions cannot prevent a head of state from attending a UN event and Mugabe makes full use of this loophole.

However, the last time that he came to New York, he was invited to attend City Hall as an honoured guest of city councillors an IMO that is a clear breach of the sanctions.

Personally, I would prefer to re-locate the UN to Midway Island or French Frigate Shoals or perhaps Tristan da Cunha.

Rockefeller made a really big mistake.

I'm sure he followed his speech at the UN with dinner at the Four Seasons, some dancing & a little nightcap with his favorite prostitute. Like the rest of the international freeloaders & empty suits that infest Turtle Bay.

The US must withdraw from the UN now.

Why does the US and Britain even belong to this band of thugs? Maybe this will happen under Bush's 2nd term.

Wouldn't it be fun to watch the Liberals cry crocodile tears!

I may not have been paying attention that closely. The sanctions were imposed by individual countries, not the UN?

A bigot like Mugabe, who has had innocent white farmers murdered under his reign in blood and chaos, draws applause from the Cretins at the UN. I think this country needs to get its priorites straight. WITHDRAW AT ONCE!!

Visits to the UN trump US sanctions. Castro has made a number of NYC visits to the UN as well. I don't think they can venture much beyond the UN and where they stay in Manhatten though.

Another foreign leader for Kerry.

Now we know what it takes to get a round of applause at the UN.

In that case, we should put him on the watch list like Cat Stevens :-). He can go talk crap somewhere else. The President must be a much better person than me, he's probably not even heard about this so-called speech, and if he has, he's doing well to stay above the level of scumbags like Mugabe.

He commits apatheid in his country, when other leaders speak out, he calls them agressors. He should have taken a lesson for South Africa where whites and black live together well.

I may not have been paying attention that closely. The sanctions were imposed by individual countries, not the UN?

Sanctions were separately imposed by the US and Europe on Mugabe, his politboro and his party cadre and church and business leaders who profited from Mugabe's tyranny. Africa and Asia did not follow suite. The US sanctions are more onerous than the European ones and extend to the spouses and children of the sanctioned persons. This has resulted in some of the children having to withdraw from US and UK universities.

The Commonwealth, over the objections of most of the African countries, suspended (not expelled) Zimbabwe. When some of the African countries finally agreed to extend the sanction, Mugabe took Zimbabwe out of the Commonwealth.

Mugabe is seen by many of the educated leaders in southern Africa as some kind of latter-day Shaka Zulu. The heads of state of African and Asian countries enjoy it, and applaud enthusiastically, when Mugabe cocks a snook at the US and Britain.

I don't know the details of what the UN and US have agreed to as far as visits from members of pariah states go but I would assume its only those with diplomatic passports and that they are restricted to just UN activities. Old Cat Stevens wasn't coming to the US in that capacity. In theory Saddam could have visited the UN while in power but as far as I know he never did. His henchman Tariq Aziz of course was at the UN a lot. Not having to host even if just in NYC these thugs is to me one of the biggest reasons for booting the UN out of the USA.

Time for a Constitutional Amendment that declares that no Treaty or other foreign agreement can rescind or override the Constitution or laws of the United States, and that any such treaty or order to the contrary that is not a proper law of this country is rescinded and unlawful.

Good point, I was thinking the same thing, how can the UN be above the laws of the country? I know there is diplomatic immunity, but in serious cases that immunity is revoked by responsible governments. In essence the UN is telling the US who can come to this country, even if those people have been prohibited to come here by law. The UN needs a good kick in the nads, they are getting way too cocky.

I'm depressed I didn't know this. I could have gone and given Mugabe a good freeping. Seeing as how they build a fotress around the UN building, it would have been hard.
