"Unless one understands that leftist ideals function as a religion, one cannot understand the Left."
Precisely. I've said the same thing at great length that you just composed in so few words. My compliments to you!

Come on guys, there are no people on the left who are able to think about political issues.

Slavery was LEGAL, that didn't make it any less wrong.
To: TheRealDBear
The Left don't ask if it legal, they ask if they'll get caught.

Doesn't seem to line up with the liberal tendency to push the federal government to extra-Constitutional limits with cries of "It's for the children!".

Not exactly but definately close enough to generalize.
The Left worships ETHICS (except DNC party leaders)
The Right : MORALITY

What's so wrong about slavery? I'm not saying I support it, but what morals does it violate? As long as you treat your slaves like real people with real feelings and real needs, then what's wrong with it?

The Left don't ask if it legal, they ask if they'll get caught.Their interest in the law is pretty much along the lines of a burglar's interest in the alarm systems in your house, the kinds of locks on your door and windows, or the dog sleeping by the front door.

Since when did the left EVER RESPECT THE LAW ???? Breaking the law is how they get their agenda working...they can't do it legally.

In actuality, liberals think selfishly and conservatives think about the safety and well-being of others (those are hasty generalizations, I know -- but see if I care). Liberals are always worried about what they can get. What can you get me? I'll vote for you if you give me free healthcare, welfare, and ass-wiping. Conservatives, on the other hand, tend to care more about the future of their children and of the world itself. How can we protect this country and this world from madmen? I'll vote for you if you make the future of my children one that is filled with peace, prosperity, and opportunity. In short, conservatives want opportunity and liberals want everything delivered to them on a silver platter.

All this helps to explain the Left's preoccupation with controlling courts; passing laws; producing, enriching and empowering lawyers; filing lawsuits; and naming judges. Laws and the makers of laws will produce heaven on earth. Of course this does not explain how the left argues that the Founding Fathers wrote a racist constitution biased toward landed gentry than the "people". At the time, these men were writing law, so they should venerate this group.
Likewise, the second ammendment is "law". That means very little to the left if they can get courts to over rule it.
I believe the left is arrogant and elitist and believe what ever they think should be given the force of the rule of law. In other words, they would gladly use the force of law to rule over society. Socialism and communism come to mind.

To the Right and to the religious, an action is good (or bad) irrespective of the votes of the world's nations. They judge it by a code of morality higher than international law. Also, that the U.S. Constitution supersedes the UN Charter.

The title's not quite accurate. It should be that the left is "legalistic." As for the law, they only respect laws to the extent that they serve to impede their political opponents.
To: william clark
Also, if the left thought legally, three fourths of the things that they do would never be done.
