"He said he believed Ms. Mapes and her team had appropriately answered all questions about the documents' authenticity and, he noted, no one seemed to be casting doubt upon the essential thrust of the report."
That's just a flat-out lie. General Staudt totally contradicted the story. Every aspect of it. That's a direct witness, when all CBS pointed to was a secretary who referenced hearsay.

Their defense is stupidity?Apparently so.
It could be true that they are stupid, but it's difficult to get the truth out of see BS.

I believe that Rather will be okay for the short term.
Mapes, on the other hand, is about to get what she has comming.
I *hope* this is true and we can get back to cleaning Kerry's clock on the issues. That said, however, I believe that the Kerry campaign MUST take responsibility for this (that and the collusive media).

HOW ABOUT AN APOLOGY TO PRESIDENT BUSH??????
To: LibWhacker
'Misled' might have passed the test for the folks still giving you guys the benefit of the doubt a week ago.
After insisting for a week that they are true despite every expert including your own coming out against, dragging an old Lady on air, and challenging Bush AGAIN to respond to the forgeries, well, the ship has sailed on 'misled'.
We are not talking collusion to pass a fraud off on the American people against a sitting President.
To: LibWhacker
White House officials have said they saw no reason to challenge documents that had been presented by a credible news organization. The Bush White House responses to Rathergate have been priceless!

Officials were meeting last night with Dan Rather, the anchor who presented the report, to go over the information it has collected about the documents one last time before making a final decision. Wouldn't we all have loved to have been a fly on the wall in THAT room?
"Just WHAT were you thinking, Dan?"

Mr. Rather and others at the network are said to still believe that the sentiment in the memos accurately reflected Mr. Killian's feelings, but that the documents' authenticity is now in grave doubt.Does this reporter have any idea how ridiculous this sounds?

He added, "We in management had no sense that the producing team wasn't completely comfortable with the results of the document analysis.'' Sounds like they're getting ready to throw Rather off the train.

it was mounting an intensive news investigation of where they came from. What a crock! This Clinton-speak, Alice Through the Looking Glass, bizarro statement is too much.

CBS News officials have disputed her contention that she warned the network the night before the initial "60 Minutes'' report that it would face questions from documents experts.
Gee, who should I believe?

"We are confident about the chain of custody; we're confident in how we secured the documents." This is almost heart stopping funny. Kinko's is the choice of secure custody for people with secrets to keep. Oh man, what twits.

You can bet the farm that the CBS "investigation" won't go anywhere near the DNC or the Kerry campaign.

I am afraid this entire thing was a ploy to change the subject from the Swift Boat Vets to get the heat off Kerry. It took that story off the front burner.
