FReep Seattle Call In Radio talk show - station that fired Host Critical of Dan Rather
KIRO 7 ^ | September 19, 2004 | Brian Maloney Fired Host

Posted on 09/19/2004 12:25:23 AM PDT by BJungNan

Okay late night FReepers, here is your chance to FReep a late night call in talk show in Seattle. The station that fired the Talk Show host that says he was fired for being critical of Dan Rather and the fake docs.

I just called and got right through. Told him I had heard about some crazy story on the interenet that a talk show host at their station had been fired for being critical of Dan Rather.

I asked him if it was true. He said he did not know, that management was not talking about it. He said it has made the AP Wire already but he still did not have an answer. I told him I would be listening to his show. I'm sure all his listeners would like an answer.

Go ahead. Call. FReep away. Here is the direct line to the call in. 206 726 6397

But don't tell them where you got the number. Just act like you are a listener and ask him, why was this guy really fired.

Background on the story is shown below. Here is the call in number: 206 726 6397

------------

SEATTLE - A radio talk-show host said Saturday he has been fired for criticizing CBS newsman Dan Rather's handling of challenges to the authenticity of memos about President Bush's National Guard service.

"On the talk show that I host, or hosted, I said I felt Rather should either retire or be forced out over this," said Brian Maloney, whose weekly "The Brian Maloney Show" aired for three years on KIRO-AM Radio, a CBS affiliate here.

Maloney says he made that statement on his Sept. 12 program. He was fired Friday, he said.

"What they have expressed is essentially that my show went in a direction they're not comfortable with," Maloney said.

KIRO Radio's general manager, Ken Berry, did not return a call seeking comment. A staff member at the station said Berry would not comment because it is a personnel matter.

Rather cited the memos, purportedly written by Bush's late squadron commander, in a Sept. 8 "60 Minutes II" segment. The memos indicated the commander was pressured to "sugar coat" Bush's performance and that Bush ignored an order to take a physical.

Several document experts have said the memos look suspiciously like they were written on a computer, not a 1970s-era typewriter. Rather said Sept. 10 that there was no definitive evidence of forgery.

On Wednesday, the network said it would work harder to address concerns about the memos.

Maloney said he had felt free to comment on the controversy and on Rather.

"I really felt he was taking the network's credibility down with him," Maloney said in a telephone interview.

"Talk-show hosts have generally had a lot of independence in these kinds of issues," he said. "Nobody's ever said, 'You can't criticize CBS News.'"

KIRO Radio is affiliated with CBS but owned by Entercom, a national radio broadcasting company based in Bala Cynwyd, Pa.

re: I asked him if it was true.

Why? "What they have expressed is essentially that my show went in a direction they're not comfortable with," Maloney said."

CBS is ditching loose cargo...I mean the truth.

I called them [from Spokane, and I assume they have Caller ID] and they told me that he was fired, and that he was critical of Dan Rather, but he could not confirm that he was fired because of being critical of Dan Rather. LOL!

Are we surprised? The documents are forgeries, but accurate.

Maloney is a good guy. I bet he's picked up by one the other 2 Seattle talk stations KVI or KTTH, both conservative.

KIRO, the firer, is primarily a news station, and a good one, despite this silly action. Their talk is a mixed bag. They haves several liberal nitwits on in the evenings, especially this Erin Hart bubblehead, who is extremely emotional and fully incapable of adult reasoning. Their afternoon guy, Dorrie Monson, is excellent though, one of the best in the area.

Their longtime morning guy, Dave Ross, is running for congress as a Democrat, though he's actually a rational moderate. I would consider voting for him if he were in my district, and I haven't voted for a Democrat in 8 or 9 years.

KIRO is in VERY LIBERAL Seattle. Most of it's talk show hosts are liberal (not all). And they most certainly have been free to say whatever they want about Pres. Bush. Their big gun for the AM slot, Dave Ross, finally left, after announcing several months ago, he was going to run as a Democrat for the US House. (Just had primary and he was big winner on the Dem side)
KIRO does not promoted itself as a liberal station.
Also KIRO TV in Seattle is where Mary Mapes of RATHERGATE fame used to work. A freeper to another post about Ms Mapes said that the incidences of "police brutality" went way down after she left the area. She apparently ginned up any hint of such.

It might be a little unnerving to that station if a few people from out-of-state called them and said, "geeze, the whole world knows about this. What's wrong with KIRO in Seattle?" (my old stomping grounds)

The left champion's everyones freedom of speech, unless you are pro religion or critise one of the Liberal Sacred Cows, such as Dan Blather. No right to Freedom of Speech against the lying media elite. That will not be tolerated. Welcome to Hillary's communist left.

[...left champion's everyones freedom of speech, unless you are pro religion or critise one of the Liberal Sacred Cows, such as Dan Blather. No right to Freedom of Speech against the lying media elite...]

PC is a diabolical Orwellian concept to stifle dissent and control the sheep...you know the code words: tolerance, diversity, etc..

Same for Congress. Orin Hatch recently said ..."the left is all for freedom of speech as long as it is their freedom of speech..."

....very LIBERAL SEATTLE...

Seattle is San Francisco-lite...where tin foil hats are used for more than to ward off the rain.

The premise of Brian Maloney's show is "No Baloney"

The Communist News Network's insufferable Aaron Brown came from KIRO TV as well.
