I'm very worried that the impact of this whole Rathergate thing will to force the Dems to go negative.

How much more negative can they be.
"Bush Lied People Died"
"Bush = Hitler"
"Bush knew of the terror attacks before they happened, and didn't do anything to stop them"
"Privileged Son"
"AWOL in TANG"
"GWB used Cocaine"
"Paid for Abortion"
"Didn't react quick enough when he was told about terrorist acts"
"Hasn't released all his TANG Documents"
"Has Osama Bin Laden and will release announcement in Oct
"Is preventing blacks from voting"
"Wants to burn black churches"
"Order prisoners to be beaten in Abu Ghraib"
"Responsible for James Byrd's death in Jasper, TX"
"Selected Not Elected"
Add your own here!

These slanders and negativity haven't worked. The only thing left is to manufacture evidence against GWB!

A biographical sketch appended to another anti- Bush essay Burkett posted on an Internet site in late August describes him as "one of the sources" for Michael Moore's anti-Bush film "Fahrenheit 9/11."

I didn't see the movie .. how would Burkett be a source for Moore??

BTW ... wasn't Joe Lockhart and Lehane sent to Paris months ago about some problems with the critics about Moore's movie?

While CBS News president Andrew Heyward has publicly backed Rather.

That was not a presidential move. ...unless you are president of the DNC.

Burkett himself refused to talk to reporters camped outside his house last week, although he did tell a journalist that since he began speaking out, unnamed assailants had killed his dog and threatened to rape his wife.

That's pretty easy to verify. Why didn't Newsweek?

Oh that's rich!

Reminds me of the *intense* security precautions *required* at the Democrat convention. Realizing of course that if Al Qaeda operatives were in charge of security the Democrat leadership would be in the safest position possible.

You don't suppose Mapes typed up the documents based on Burkett's assumptions, and then gave them to Burkett to pass on ..?? I don't think Burkett would have the wherewithall to create the documents - although he does have a computer.

I don't see why that would be necessary. The Kerry campaign has not even scratched the surface of Kerry's courageous voting record, or his tireless work on the foreign relations committee.

Once Kerry gets a chance to introduce himself during the debates I'm sure that famous Massachusetts charm will win over undecided voters who may not even be aware of Kerry's service during Vietnam.

I don't think so. Killian's former secrtary mentioned that the documents contained Army terminology not used by the Air national Guard. Burkett was in the Army National Guard. What was produced was more consistant with his background.

I think it is possible that Burkett manufactured the memos consistant with the questions Mapes asked him and overlooked the possibility that the use of a modern Word processor would give it away. There is no big wherewithall required for this, Just the standard MSword and an inkjet or laser printer. No big deal.

Prayers for Rather. RIP. In the meantime, hopefully he will continue forging ahead. He has the power to singlehandedly destroy Kerry's campaign. Damn the torpodoes, full blather ahead! Woo hoo!!

You make a great point: "possible that Burkett manufactured the memos consistant with the questions Mapes asked".

Well .. I think the whole stinking bunch of them were in volved in concocting this plan and then when they got caught, everybody is ducking for cover and letting Dan take the fall. I hope he outs them. If he does, it will mean the end of democrat rule - anywhere in govt. I hope Dan does it soon, before he meets with a case of Arkancide.

Rather is privately telling colleagues he remains "confident" that the story, and the memos, will be vindicated......."

He's stalling for a better forgery. And a better script.

He better pull the Rosetta stone out of his butt for this one.

What he must be stalling for is for the heat to die down and praying that Burkett does not crack and confess he is the source of the forgeries.

Since an all knowing Rather tells us that the documents are legit, and 1,000's of other reputable sources says they are fake, the it becomes a toss up and therefore "questionable forgeries" according to the "unbiased" mainstream biased press.

That's because they didn't have Jacques Baute inform them they had forgeries. Nothing less will do.

Um, if reporters have been camped outside his house, wouldn't they have noticed anyone trying to kill his dog?

If Burkett's in danger of cracking the DNC will do more than kill his dog to shut him up.
