While I like the article, I don't believe American planes were blasting German planes out of the sky in the Battle of Britain in 1940. We didn't enter the war in Europe until Hitler stupidly declared war on us after Pearl Harbor.
Well, I meant to say American "fliers" because there were volunteers who fought with the RAF, but you are totally correct: no American aircraft flew over England (except some lend-lease-type planes we sold the Brist) until 1943.
