Hi DoctorZin - Here's a Hollywood Reporter article about us today! Feel free to post on Free Republic!

The article is also pasted below.

Also, we have the schedule up for all our events up on the website, along with ticket-selling capabilities for almost all events (later today we'll get final paperwork for "Ten Commandments" and "Desperate Journey" from Paramount & Warner Brothers, so we can sell tickets for that hopefully by the end of the day).

So please start spreading the word!
Best,
Jason & Govindini

Right turn, bipartisan yuks as 2 film fests talk politics

By Paul Bond
On the heels of a politically motivated film festival that wrapped Saturday in Dallas, a couple more are on the way, including a bipartisan effort from directors Barry Levinson and John Sayles and one that, like the Dallas effort, leans to the right.

From Levinson and Sayles comes the Political Comedy Festival, a function of Levinson's alma mater, the American University School of Communication. The festival opens Thursday in Washington with the new Sayles satire "Silver City" and also includes the feature films "Wag the Dog," "Primary Colors,"
"Election," "Bob Roberts" and the Preston Sturges classic "The Great McGinty."

Scheduled speakers include Levinson and "Primary Colors" anonymous author Joe Klein, as well as speechwriters for former Presidents Reagan, Bush and Clinton and Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry.

As for the new right-wing affair, it's been dubbed the Liberty Film Festival and begins Oct. 1 in Hollywood.

Besides at least a dozen films, the festival features the workshop "Conservative Filmmaking 101," with Victor Elizalde lecturing on how movies get the green light. Elizalde, director of worldwide business development at Sony Pictures Entertainment, has taken a leave from the studio to run for Congress against Democratic Rep. Henry Waxman.

"Come to the seminar and learn, and next year you will have a place to show your film," said festival co-founder Govindini Murty, promising an annual event. Festival backers include actor Robert Davi, Los Angeles Opera president Frank Baxter and the David Horowitz group the Center for the Study of Popular Culture.

Another seminar, "You'll Never Eat Lunch in This Town Again," includes actor Morgan Brittany and producer Douglas Urbansky.

Films scheduled include "Impact: The Passion of the Christ" from Tim Chey, the 1956 extravaganza "The Ten Commandments" and the 1942 movie "Desperate Journey." The World War II drama "Journey," starring Errol Flynn and Ronald Reagan, is scheduled as part of a Reagan tribute at the festival.

"The movie was a morale booster," Murty said. "We're in a war situation again, but this time Hollywood mostly is working to destroy morale."

The festival also features the West Coast premiere of two films that debuted to positive buzz at the Dallas festival, the American Film Renaissance:
"Michael & Me" and "Michael Moore Hates America."

Both movies challenged the credibility of documentary filmmaker Moore, and both added showings to accommodate festivalgoers, festival co-founder Jim Hubbard said.

The former, a film by talk radio and TV host Larry Elder, takes on Moore's view of gun control espoused in his Oscar-winning "Bowling for Columbine,"
and Hubbard said he has received numerous requests from Second Amendment advocacy groups for copies of the film. The latter received a 10-minute standing ovation, similar to the reaction from audiences who first saw Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" at the Festival de Cannes this year.

"This will knock Michael Moore down a notch," Hubbard said. "Fans will defend him, but those on the fence certainly won't. The best part is the veteran with no arms from 'Fahrenheit 9/11' telling Michael Moore how he misused him."

Moore had once publicly denied that "Michael Moore Hates America" existed, prompting a cease-and-desist order leveled against him by the Pennsylvania law firm Fredrikson & Byron.

Hubbard said 4,000 people attended the three-day Dallas festival.

Is It True What They Say About Ann? - Ann Coulter documentary
From www.mdfilmfest.com:

IS IT TRUE WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT ANN? (work in progress)

Saturday, May 8, 9:00 PM, Charles Theatre 2

Director: Elinor Burkett and Patrick Wright

Cast: Ann Coulter

Country: U.S.
Year: 2004
Running Time: 45 minutes
Format: DVD

Ann Coulter would hate this observation, but she and Hillary Clinton are strikingly similar. Bright, strong, disciplined in ways that are scary, both women are pretty sure they understand the cosmos. Both are fearless, and are irrationally hated by their opponents. "Nazi." Is just one of the epithets - from college students no less - you'll hear directed to Ann in this amazing and entertaining documentary.

In classic cinema verite style, the filmmakers take a look at Ann Coulter in a variety of settings, from television appearances to college campuses to the back of vans. We see her taking on all comers, including some surprising moments of genuine affection, and struggling with some of the costs that come with being a celebrity. A University of Michigan Law graduate and bestselling author, Ann Coulter likes to provoke her audience. ("We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity," she wrote in an infamous piece following 9/11.) This work-in-progress film allows her to do just that.

-- Jed Dietz

Presented By: Patrick Wright (director)

Patrick Wright had produced several documentaries on HIV/AIDs and an expose on sexual abuse in the Catholic Church. The works have screened internationally. He is the chair of the Video Department at the Maryland Institute College of Art.

Tired of Michael Moore's film-flam? There are alternatives.

BY BRIDGET JOHNSON

-- snip --

...Not Cannes, not Sundance, but the first-ever Liberty Film Festival, showcasing conservative, libertarian and independent films this fall in Los Angeles.

Rising conservative filmmaking power couple Jason Apuzzo and Govindini Murty, who are directing the event, will be premiering their black-and-white noir thriller "Terminal Island," shot at the Port of Los Angeles. Ms. Murty's character is stalked around the harbor by a Muslim terrorist, who is being pursued by a bounty hunter. "Because no Hollywood studio would touch a film that had a Muslim terrorist as the villain--or that was sympathetic to the war on terror--we produced the film ourselves," Mr. Apuzzo said...

"Our goal is to make edgy, provocative narrative films that challenge Hollywood's liberal orthodoxy," added Ms. Murty. "Documentaries are fine, but narrative films are what have the greatest impact on our culture."

One promising documentary you'll find at the festival is "Michael Moore Hates America," scheduled for release this October. What could be more fitting than a young filmmaker doing exactly what the disingenuous Mr. Moore does to others--chase him around with a microphone to pen him into answering questions and torturing him in the process?

...In the trailer, Mr. Moore tells a newsman that he refuses to be interviewed by Mr. Wilson because Mr. Moore doesn't appear in anything but his own films--and as he explains this, we see a scrolling list of films Mr. Moore has appeared in but not directed...

'Michael Moore Hates America' huge hit
10-minute standing ovation for documentary at film festival

Posted: September 14, 2004

By Ron Strom
© 2004 WorldNetDaily.com

"Michael Moore Hates America," a documentary that challenges the leftist filmmaker, received a huge response at the American Film Renaissance festival in Dallas, packing out two showings and eliciting a 10-minute standing ovation.

"That crowd response was bigger than anything I've seen in a theater in my life," Jim Hubbard, the co-founder of the festival, told WorldNetDaily. The festival ran from Sept. 10-12.

Hubbard said demand to see the film was so high, the theater was bursting at the seams during the second showing.

"We really packed them in," he said. "We were having to turn people away."

Hubbard says he is confident the man who made "Michael Moore Hates America," 27-year-old Mike Wilson, will secure a theatrical distributor for his work.

"They're going to get distribution," he predicted. "This thing is just too huge."

Wilson was in attendance for both showings, Hubbard said. "[The moviegoers] were treating him like a rock star."

Added Hubbard, "He really peeled the hide off of Michael Moore."

In one scene, the American soldier who lost both arms in Iraq and who was shown in Moore's Bush-bashing "Fahrenheit 9/11" said he was taken out of context in the left-wing documentary.

According to Hubbard, the soldier said in the new film he had planned to be a technical engineer and could no longer do so because he lost him arms. He emphasized, however, that if he had to do it over again, he would, because "what we're doing in Iraq is important." The soldier said he was furious about the way Moore had portrayed him in "Fahrenheit 9/11."

Hubbard noted, "Moore used the south of France [Cannes Film Festival] to launch his left-wing documentary, and we used the heartland of the country, Dallas, Texas, to launch the counterpunch. There are two conflicting moral views right there."

Other films that were popular at the festival, which Hubbard says was the first conservative film festival in the nation, included "Is it True What They Say About Ann?" a documentary about columnist Ann Coulter, "Confronting Iraq" and "Michael and Me," another film responding to Michael Moore.

"Stolen Honor," a film that tells the stories of former POWs who felt betrayed by Sen. John Kerry's 1971 testimony accusing American servicemen of war crimes, also was well-received, Hubbard said.

Hubbard says there were between 3,000 and 4,000 tickets sold altogether for the 17 films that were screened.
