Suddenly, everyone's turning against us Baby Boomers
Richmond Times Dispatch ^ | 9/14/04 | RAY MCALLISTER

Whoa! What's happening?

Why are people turning on us?

We're the Baby Boomers, you know.

The Mighty Boomers.

We invented everything from money to music to sex, did we not? Nothing good ever happened until we came along.

Now people are turning on us.

We Baby Boomers are being made to feel . . . guilty.

Ridiculous, isn't it?

People have tried to make us feel guilty before. They said we consumed too much. Or we were too shallow. Or we only thought about ourselves.

Excuuuuse me.

Who should we think about? Somebody else?

All that was just jealousy. Even Tom Brokaw came along and said the World War II generation was "the greatest." Jealousy. Pure jealousy.

Sure, they saved the world.

Did they ever throw a party like Woodstock?

Howdy, CC - you asked: The real issue is that there is not going to be enough money in SS to cover all the boomers, will the Conservative Boomers vote to increase taxes?

Probably not, because most of us will still be working and paying those taxes. How the libs vote will be another matter. But those on a fixed income are generally reluctant to vote to increase taxes because the juice tends not to be worth the squeeze. Even my Democrat (bless her soul) Mother has figured that one out.

Our culture is going downhill. It will take some doing to turn things around...........

As a matter of fact recent generations are much more decadent then the boomers........

As a matter of fact you are wrong on so many levels.

But don't take my word for, Here is what one boomer we both can respect Rush Limbaugh has to say about it

Also see

It’s Morning After in America

Generation X parents outshine Baby Boomers

And for some more stats see

violent crime rate has declined throughout the 1990's as well as The pregnancy rate for unmarried women has continuously declined through the 1990s and the abortion rate dropped by about 25 percent for both married and unmarried women through the 1990s , The teen Pregnancy Rate Reached a Record Low, More Teenagers are saying no to sex and Drug use by teenagers continues to decline.

There might be some signs of a "recovery" but when I speak of going downhill I am talking about (for one) MTV and the effect it has had on young kids and the bills that are piling up. Spring break is much wilder then it was in my days. Women flashing and sodomy becoming mainstream, Oral sex has become second base where as it use to be a home run. I believe illegal immigration is having a adverse affect on society. The debt is something that will collapse at some point. We cannot stay like this forever.

I think my main point is things seem to be getting much worse and while you point to a few articles that say the youngest gen might be ready to change things, we might have dug them too large a hole to get out of. It cannot be blamed on the boomer generation. I think most boomers are quite normal and the media has given the 33% of liberal, humanist, decadent loving democrats a free pass to make them appear to be the norm instead of the oppisite.

You say I am wrong on so many levels but our culture is going downhill and has been for some time. Maybe it will turn around and like I said in a earlier post the young people of today have a new powerful weapon that is the internet untill gov.org shuts it down if they do.

As for the more decadent part thats easy to see with women flashing becoming more common then not and sodomy becoming mainstream. The stats prove that more and more people are growing up in a single parent home and marriage is becoming a thing of the past. All that a gimme. So I am not wrong on so many levels as you say.I hope and pray things will turn around but I think it will take a spiritual revial and a return to Godly ways.

Come on over to NC, vg. Weather's a bit wet (esp when compared w/AZ) but the folks are fine and the forests are lovely. Being a bit of an elf I'm more comfy here than in semi-Medit CA.

I drove through AZ on my way here. Bit stark on the west-side and generally not my cup of tea. Did much like Flagstaff, though. Can take or leave the GC.

Your ping list might be interested in his latest column:

Where the Ignorant and Angry meet

"... The column was referenced on an Internet message board.

If you're ever wondering where all the humorless people are, they are writing on the Internet. Well over a hundred responded. Dozens e-mailed me.

...Seems to me you can argue the column wasn't funny. You can argue it was badly written, or a waste of time. No problem. You can even fail to get the joke.

But why the anger? Why the hostility? Why the hatred?

Ignorant AND angry is no way to go through life, folks."

I hope these idiots didn't claim to represent Freepers.

I don't think so, None of the quotes he list match up with anything said here. Plus I think most of the people on my ping list figured out it was satire. The only harsh words directed at Baby boomers were not directed at the author but at baby boomer posters who didn't find the article funny and thought this article was somehow an attack on them.

Too bad he didn't give the name of the Internet Message Board. I will have to email him a link to this thread

I will never become my parents. My parents are highchair tyrants, constantly seeking self actualization, and so bought into secular humanism and moral relativism that all I can do is pray for their souls. I have so much more that matters, and so much more real wisdom than they ever can hope to have. I am not exactly young - I am arguably a "tweener" (but one who played a very direct role in the initial formation of early Gen X cultural trends) and have now lived long enough to evaluate myself Vs my parents coldly, logically and compassionately. The harm done by the Boomers, not to mention certain of the tail end of the Silents, to this country and to Western Civilization, shall take many decades to heal. To be fair, the Boomers are not the villians. They were conned, duped and destroyed by utopian intellectuals, Communists and other vermin, who specifically targetted them for such operations, as a means of undermining Western society. It almost worked.

Memo to GenX'ers:

GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK. NOW.

You know what, dear? By the time the government is done sucking me dry for Social Security, Medicare, etc., which I probably will never see, You will have been paid back in spades.

They said the average senior citizen currently on Social Security will spend the equivalent of the money they paid in with in 7 years. In other words, if you retire at 65 and live to be over 72 years old, after your 72nd birthday, you will be a Social Security leach.
