We invented everything from money to music to sex, did we not? Nothing good ever happened until we came along.
Now people are turning on us.
We Baby Boomers are being made to feel . . . guilty.
Ridiculous, isn't it?
People have tried to make us feel guilty before. They said we consumed too much. Or we were too shallow. Or we only thought about ourselves.
Excuuuuse me.
Who should we think about? Somebody else?
All that was just jealousy. Even Tom Brokaw came along and said the World War II generation was "the greatest." Jealousy. Pure jealousy.
Sure, they saved the world.

I think it's because Reagan was the first president we were old enough to really "see" and understand as the president. We watched him on TV when we were kids, we remember him being shot and he made an impact on us. (I'm not sure, but I would think Boomers may look at Kennedy the same way.)
Homeschooling a boy that will play with a fly, draw a picture or wrestle with the dog if I leave his side. As soon as he's done with school I either bust my butt cleaning a house that never gets clean (isn't that the way it seems to go?) or run all over town doing errands. (Being a housewife is the one job that seems to span all generations. One good thing is that you can always squeak in a little time to screw off. My grandma would read romance and my great-grandma would fish. I FReep!) Lord love the Kirby and Singer companies...

Quite right. I spoke to my mom today about this very topic. She pointed out that the Boomers had been fed a huge load of crap while they were in school. In the late 60's and early 70's they were trying to live the life they were taught to lead. She said that it wasn't until the 80's that many of them began to see that it was a complete bust and start to pull back. In her opinion, the greatest damage to my generation was done by the feminists. "They're the ******* who convinced impressionable young woman that we were garbage if we stayed home to care for our children." Maybe we just figured it out faster. Xers, I don't think we can lay the whole load of social scum at the feet of our parents. (The Liberal Dems just lapped up the insanity that was being spoon-fed to them) So who, in the Greatest or Silent Generation, started all this sh*t?

That's one thing I can't stand about you over-35ers. You never pick up the sarcasm.
Problem is, what do you do when you start having to never trust anyone over 105 or less than 60.
The former are beyond caring about "it" anymore, the latter are just young whipper-snappers too young to have figured out what "it" is yet ;O)
I mean yah jess got 55 prime years to get "it" all done in.
I don't have time to read any more Boomer whining, because this X-er is too busy working my butt off raising my family, keeping house,cooking, studying, teaching and volunteering in the community, while my husband works his butt off to support us. Get real! LOL.

I've heard this before, things like: 'you're the future leaders of this country and the world', and 'the future depends on you', 'you will be the generation that leads the world...' and other grandiose stuff. Any boomer care to verify or clarify? If it's true it would be in stark contrast to what the x'ers were 'fed'.
Not necessarily. Even pro-abortion people have children ... when it's convenient, when they're ready.
It is true that conservatives are more likely to produce children and tend to have larger families, which is at least one reason why Gen X tends to be more conservative, overall, then my generation, the Boomers.
Many men like feminism because they associate it with easy sex, abortion, and not being responsible for and to a woman. Liberal men are the worst male chauvinists in the world -- feminism is a great excuse for exploiting women.

Yup. Women's "right" to choose. It's amazing how much flack I took when I chose to stay home. It took a lot more when I choose to homeschool. Mostly by women. ("breeder", "slave", "zombie"... I have better friends now.)
Gen Xers were told that by 2000 most of the really good wildlife would be extinct, the population would be horrible, there would be mass starvation, global warming was going to cause more mass starvation, there would be no Social Security (don't know why that would matter as there would be so much mass starvation that nobody would really have a chance to get old), crime and drug usage would be horrible, etc, etc, etc. The basic message was that the world was going to hell-in-a-handbasket and there really wouldn't be much to save. We were on our own and shouldn't look anywhere but to ourselves for much of anything.
Now that I think about it, such a message might just very well breed a libertarian/conservative mindset. It would also breed a teeth-grinding intolerance against social programs and redistribution of the wealth. Add to the drumbeat unstable families and the whole latch-key nightmare and you've just created a generation of survivalists with very little patience for people who sing "I just gotta be meeeee!"
