Suddenly, everyone's turning against us Baby Boomers
Richmond Times Dispatch ^ | 9/14/04 | RAY MCALLISTER

Whoa! What's happening?

Why are people turning on us?

We're the Baby Boomers, you know.

The Mighty Boomers.

We invented everything from money to music to sex, did we not? Nothing good ever happened until we came along.

Now people are turning on us.

We Baby Boomers are being made to feel . . . guilty.

Ridiculous, isn't it?

People have tried to make us feel guilty before. They said we consumed too much. Or we were too shallow. Or we only thought about ourselves.

Excuuuuse me.

Who should we think about? Somebody else?

All that was just jealousy. Even Tom Brokaw came along and said the World War II generation was "the greatest." Jealousy. Pure jealousy.

Sure, they saved the world.

Did they ever throw a party like Woodstock?

We also gave you the Internet and the AFL NFL merger.

Unfortunately, Boomers also gave the world the "Designated Hitter".

For that alone, we deserve to be scourged by future generations.

I can live without socalist security, I paid into it I will take what it pays, if it went away no big deal. I never thought I would live to collect it, I arranged my investments in case that prediction came true.

The most terrifing sentence in the English Language is, "I am from the government and I am here to help."

Think and act as if you were the only free person in the USA.

I'll pray for you, alright! I know what you mean. My mother can get under my skin on the telephone with some of her carping.

I cared for my elderly FIL for sometime and there were days it took all my willpower not to drown him in his soup.

WE didnt remove prayer from school. That happened in 62 I believe. The battle that satan is waging against the ten comandments is more recent and recent generations can shoulder some of the blame. The boomers are not responsible for everything from 52 to 04.

As a matter of fact recent generations are much more decadent then the boomers. You folks have your own problems. Stop whining and blameing us. You dont hear us whining about all the crap the greatest gen pulled on us and we sure didnt start SS. We just paid more money into the ponzi scheme then any generation ever will and most of us wont get anything from it.

I call BS.

Look, here's the 'two-ways' of it:

BOOMERS get to cushion their retirement and have not only pensions but SS and Medicare to take care of them. There will be none left by the time GENERATION REAGAN gets to retire. I guarantee it. But that thought never crosses the minds of the Boomers who want their money returned to them. God forbid that Generation Reagan wants the same kind of assurance for THEIR old age...and no preaching about how we have to save up for our retirement, because 5 months out of the year goes toward SS and Medicare...whatever money we CAN save is being eaten up by the Boomers.

You Boomers leave the world releasing us from the burden of cushioning your retirement, then I'll cut you guys some slack. As it is, your generation perpetuated the Lie that FDR set up and you want to have your cake and eat it too.

Finally, I would LOVE to be able to set it up for myself where I could make the choice of thumbing my nose at government 'charity' but the way previous generations have fumbled the ball, I HAVE NO CHOICE!!!

Boomers, YOUR money should have gone to the politicians who would erase FDR's Raw Deal and allowed future generations to utilize their money in such a way that if Boomer Grampa needed surgery, Generation Reagan could foot the bill without a single blink of the eye.

As it is, too many are perfectly happy to turn to the government. I for one try like hell to keep away from it, but I have been warned that I will be forced to go scrabbling to them...and when I do, I will be told "it's broken."

I assure you Boomers, that sort of insecurity pisses me off!

BTW why do you call yourself Generation Reagan? The oldest of you was 16 when Reagan was elected.

Hi All! Sunshine's back! :)

Alkhin, anyone...why DO you call yourselves Generation Reagan? Or whatever that term is? Seriously. For once, this is not a trick question on my part. I really am curious.

She might not want to go there, as the boomers were at their absolute peak, in terms of percentage of the electorate, right around the time of Reagan's landslide victory.

I've also not gotten an answer from any poster on this thread, and the other BoomerBashingThreads.

How can these people post during the middle of a workday? Who is supporting them? Are they living at home? Are their parents supporting them? Or, are they at work, using their bosses computer, time, etc.

For some unknown reason, no one will ever answer. Oh well. I have bigger fish to fry.

I'm proud to be a boomer and as for the "Greatest Generation", the one that fought fascism? Well isn't that the same generation that invented fascism?

The Greatest Generation gets a lot of credit for basically solving it's own problems. I'm not trying to minimize the sacrifice but keep in mind, much of the valor was expended and the blood was shed solving problems created by the same generation.

Well I can't speak for everybody else but I made my post during my lunch break. Plus because of Boomer lawyers, instead of goofing off telling jokes at the watercooler or trying to get a date with the hot secretary like people did in the past, We have to goof off by playing on the Internet where there is little threat of being sued.

Memo to GenX'ers:

GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK. NOW.

Memo to Boomers:

I never took one thin dime from any of you. Served four years in the Army and didn't even take the GI Bill.

Paid for my under- and post-graduate schooling out of my own pocket.

And there are many other GenXers just like me.

Nineteen Seventy-One in tha house!

Guess I was just lucky enough not to have Boomers as parents, since they were both born in the Thirties.

Mrs. Wbill is currently out of work - she's worried, but for all the wrong reasons. She wants to stay productive in the workforce and make a difference. Meanwhile, she's redone three rooms in our house and relandscaped the front yard. The place has never looked better. She volunteers three nights a week as well. If that's not staying productive, I don't know what is - but - since she's not challenging the 'glass ceiling', it doesn't count.

Lol, she sounds great, you're a lucky freeper!

Like I suggested to another disgruntled Xer(who misunderstood, I'm afraid) why don't you/we/us guys head over to DU & kick the butts that are REALLY responsible?

Agreed. But IMHO, it's important that we have occasional bickering amongst ourselves, or FR becomes the MSM, as long as everyone keeps perspective, and rembers the real heat should be on the DNC/DU'ers and their nixon-like allies in the MSM.

BTW, I'm home from work so my posting is not taking away from your retirement, lol!

I *do* want to go there, because MY generation CAME OF AGE when Reagan was elected. It doesnt matter if we were able to vote for him, MY generation was the one observing what the Boomers were doing and what Ronald Reagan himself exemplified, and they were two totally different things and we preferred Ronald Reagan. His administration formed the basis of our exposure to world politics and made us proud to be American. I am old enough to remember the stark difference between the 70s and the 80s...so I dont take kindly to any lip about how MY generation doesnt have a claim to that man.

Ask qam1 for further explanation.
