Why aren't the Feds involved? (vanity)

By now, the proof is incontrovertible that the "Bush Documents" are fraudulent. In fact, I saw a comparison between Lt Col Killian's real signature and that of the forged document on Fox News. Not even close! It didn't even take a handwriting expert to point out the glaring differences. Ok, so someone typed up false documents and forged a Lt Colonel's signature - all in an attempt to defame the President of the United States. Dan Blather and CBS will not identify their source. This sounds somewhat to me like a crime has been commited. So, my question is, is this something the FBI would investigate? Could Blather & Co. be subpoenaed?

But last time I looked forgery and fraud are still crimes.

Criminal fraud requires that deceit be used to deprive someone of money, property or legal rights. Criminal forgery requires that there be an attempt to gain some illegal benefit on the part of the person committing the forgery. Neither charge would be easy to prove in this instance, and would probably be a state rather than a federal issue in any case.

That's a crime, isn't it

Perhaps but I think we need some lawyers to step up and say what statutes if any were broken. What seems logical to laymen may not be chargeable ...eg. Clinton lying under oath.

FEDS are not in this as it would look like George Bush was crying like a baby about the Forged documents. In the public opinion world Bush gets high marks for staying away from this issue. IF it would have been KERRY the BABY then he would have cried foul ball! Look how the GOP is sliming me.

Don't think that the American public isn't smart enough to see this. Bush is just one SMART politically savy guy!

God Bless George Bush. He is for Free Speech and avoids The book burning ways of the Democraps and John Kerry. By the Way Has John Kerry reported for Duty in the Senate recently.

An attempt to manipulate a Presidential election. The whole situation sounds criminal to me.

If I'm not mistaken, and I very well could be. These documents would fall under the heading of Official Documents once entered into the record.

Falsification of an official document is a crime.

We are not going to have a banana republic where the people in power investigate and imprison their political opponents. Fuggedaboutit.

In New York State, the crime of forgery is defined under section 170. I believe that the producers of these documents have without question committed Forgery in the Third Degree (170.05) which in NY is a class A misdemeanor, and I believe a competent prosecutor could probably make a good argument for Forgery in the Second Degree (170.10), which in NY is a class D felony.

Why would we want that?
So it will be pushed off the news cycles?
No, I rather like seeing it 24/7 with repeated drip, drip, drip of damage.

By standing by the memos, Rather is asserting that a high ranking member of the military illegally kept seperate and personal adverse action reports on military personnel.
That's grounds for court-martial.
Rather's ego mouthed off before Viacom's lawyers had a chance to tell him to shut up.
He's screwed both ways.

The answer to the problem of too much government is not more government.

People on FR have fixed this problem without the help of government.

Being hooked on government isn't isolated to liberals.

I sure am glad the Democrats in the early 70's didn't do anything like that.

That's baloney, just becasue you are involved in a political campaign it doesn't give you carte blanche to do break whatever statutes you want since it is merely politics. If laws have been broken then whoever broke them needs to be charged and sentenced if they are found guilty.

I am not a lawyer but there must be something like this to apply to Mapes, Rather, and the original source

---And they've been called private. I don't know. But fraud and forgery are crimes. That much I do know. And this one should be prosecuted just like any other.---

At some point seeBS and Dan Rather's stonewalling will tip over into accessory after the fact. Even if they were originally duped. It's too early though for the Feds to jump in. Let it unravel: the crime is still unfolding.

This is a criminal conspiracy that could make Watergate look small.
