Report from Chappaqua: No downside for Hillary if she replaces Kerry on the ticket..
one man's opinion

Posted on 09/13/2004 12:27:52 PM PDT by ken5050

As many of you know, I have over the past four years occasionally chronicled the Clintons, from the perspective of what one hears and observes from Beautiful Downtown Chappaqua. Many Freepers have told me how much they enjoy my commentaries. I've ignored the rumors, the innuendos, the "tin-foil hat" theories. Indeed, there are many more very interesting details that I have deliberately chosen NOT to share with all of you. What I'm going to discuss now is admitted speculation on my part, but based upon a few conversations I've had in the last few days..and you'll have to trust my instincts on my sources..OK..here goes..

TOPICS: Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: badseed; clinton; conspiringclintons; hillary; hitlery; rodham; stophillary; traitor

The only way that pledged Electors are freed is if their candidate resigns from the race after the election, or dies.

Suppose a candidate resigns before the election due to scandal or illness. Or suppose he makes an unscheduled flight on Air Wellstone. What happens then?

I understand the DNC would appoint a replacement ticket, but what mechanism would be used to handle electors' pledges?

It would be unsettling to the public, because the public is ignorant of presidential election law.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Thank you for all the many, many times you have pointed out to us what the presidential election law actually is and how it works.

Hopefully this ignorance will result in a PR backlash against her when she tries it--whether it's now or '08. My money's on now because their biggest weapon, MSM/DNC machine, isn't going to be nearly so powerful as it is now. It's weakened now, but it will be many times more so in four more years. IMO.

California ( for example): 6906. The electors, when convened, if both candidates are alive, shall vote by ballot for that person for President and that person for Vice President of the United States, who are, respectively, the candidates of the political party which they represent, one of whom, at least, is not an inhabitant of this state.

8803. No vacancy on the ballot for a general election shall be filled except if the candidate dies and that fact has been ascertained by the officer charged with the duty of printing the ballots at least 68 days before the date of the next ensuing general election.

8810. Whenever a candidate has been nominated at any primary election after having filed a declaration of candidacy, the name of the candidate shall be printed upon the ballot for the ensuing general election unless the candidate has died and that fact has been ascertained by the officer charged with the duty of printing the ballots, at least 68 days before the day of election.

And the Congress is required by federal law to abide by the judgement of the state as to the legitimacy of the votes of it's electors, except by majority vote of both Houses.

But in practise... who will stand against the will of the majority?

The case you describe in #140 is my best hope that she can be kept out. OTOH I had been afraid that she might feel she had to run now just because of that. She can say that the timing is clearly political, blah, blah, blah... But the truth is that they have the goods on her if they've got the cojones to close on it.

Kerry's campaign is imploding. It's enough to drive a man who has spent 30 years preparing to be president to suicide. Pity, but isn't it fortunate that the dems have such a well-known Senator who is willing to step in and rescue the party? I've said from the beginning that she will be on the ticket and I haven't changed my mind. I don't know how she will do it, but she will. (I hope I'm wrong)

I feel a little nervous putting this down on paper

I have had similar thoughts for a long time and have been afraid to mention them. I only hope that those whose job it is to run scenarios are prepared for the one you have laid out. Because, as you say, time will be short.

I hope we're both wrong, but we'd better prepare in case we're right. I've been expecting it since the 2002 NJ atrocity.

If she has to suicide Kerry to get him out, she'll probably whip up the crowds about how those hateful right wingers drove him to suicide. That's what they said when they Fosterized Vince.

I feel extremely nervous. I don't believe in "planting the seeds" of my own destruction.

Another complaint - just because a woman wants a job does not mean - in any way - that it is predestined that she will inherit the position.

I have always been upset with "our side" so afraid of a Hillary that they themselves bring it about. She is not qualified for a presidency - but all this talk of her jumping in just feeds into her power of assumption to the throne.

She is no different than Al Gore (who wanted the presidency), John Kerry (who wants the presidency), Howard Dean (who wanted the presidency). We strongly err when we fall down and just let her walk her way to running this nation.

No - No - No.

And - remember - the woman was married to a president, was a lawyer and a one term senator. Just where does she show that she so far outshines all governors, all career military, all political candidates to be the top choice to just walk into the job with absolutely no necessary experience, honor, character, integrity, or ability?

I know there is a need to discuss our fears but on a internet website that, especially at this time, is being seen by tons of liberals?

I'm also afraid there is nothing we can do to stop her. She is set to orchistrate a coup d'etat and she will have the assistance of every major media org. in the world. Our minority media won't stand a chance. I hate being so pessimistic, but I learned long ago what that woman is capable of.

If the vote was honest, we'd have NOTHING to worry about from her. Way too many people despise her. OTOH there are all those new touch screen machines that have zero paper trail.

So, you are going to just lay down and let her walk over you to the throne position? Why are there no rules anymore? Because the republicans continually allow the dems to tell them what to do and they just accept it.

How many times do you see on these threads - we can't do that - the dems will throw a fit. How many times - we quit complaining because we know the dems will not get taken to the woodshed? (Ex. Dan Rather)

I heard a comment on talk radio, that the effort now by the dems is to make us accept that the double standard is the norm. And, we conservatives just fall right in line and let them do it.

We are the ones with the presidency, the senate, the legislature. Why do the dems have the power?

Because WE GIVE IT TO THEM BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT THE FIGHT.

If Hillary does manipulate herself into running this country although only a one term senator with absolutely nothing that would qualify her over all the other people in this nation - it will be because of the attitudes shown by Freepers themselves and conservatives - not the dems.

And it will mean that we are so weak that we will allow a hated self-centered woman to ignore all the election procedures, ignore getting the will of the people and install herself into the position of leading this country. We will then proceed to having her trash the constitution, install the media as a government run media, put limits on the internet and turn this into a socialistic country with her determining all future rulers.

Well I have posited this senario for two years now off and on...
The spectacle of Hillary as Prez and Bubba as 1st gentleman in the White House again legally in a "dual" presidency like last time is epic in scope.. The MSM and Hollywood would have died and gone to heaven.. THIS is my nightmare senario.. "the HORROR, the HORROR"

Touch screen ballots, or the old paper ballots.

Either way, it doesn't matter.

People underestimate by a long shot just how much vote fraud goes on.

"she's got the stench of defeat, (to go along with the klinton stench) and people won't forget that"

I sure hope you are correct. You are when it comes to myself.

I don't know who would make the worse Prez. Hillary or Skerry.

The replacement of Senator Eagleton by Sargeant Shriver as McGovern's nominee for Vice President is the answer to the question you asked about replacement of candidates. That happened after the convention but before the election. None of what you are talking about is new.

Seriously, if Kerry starts channeling Al Gore and Howard Dean and putting up Kucinich numbers, it could happen.
