Apparently only RETIRED Generals keep CYA memos.
I checked the CBS website this morning and almost fell out of my chair! - I can't believe CBS is standing by thier man. They've had a whole night to sleep on it. They can't possibly pull this one out - the whole world knows. It's like some kind of joke.
Hopefully Rather wasn't planning a long weekend of calf- roping because I think he has to go to work tonight. My guess is he is refusing to apoligize in the prescribed manner and the CBS brass is pissed at him.
You're just another rubbernecker on the Turnpike to Hell, ain't ya.
TERRIFIC!! LOL
"I regret to have to inform you that in the recent CBS News story regarding new documents that seemed to confirm what we all know to be true about President Bush's shameful avoidance of service in the TANG, some self-professed experts are now claiming the documents in question appear to be forged. CBS News should have more thoroughly validated the believability of the forg...er, documents before running the story. Of course this is no admission of wrondoing on the part of myself, CBS News, or the DNC, and this unfortunate admission in no way diminishes the well-known facts of President Bush's refusal to serve in Vietnam."
Yes, they are cursing like sailors and those that aren't about ready to slit their wrists over this because they think it will give GWB a "pass" on future stories such as this are blaming Rove and "the Chimpies" for forging the documents. Then there's the few that are still in denial saying CBS is standing by the story. Another angle they are hitting on now is that Bush had to make two passes to make a landing on one of his flights in 1972, so he was apparently incompetant as a pilot.
The memo that you show is also interesting for the fact that both Harris and Killian had already rated Lt. Bush in May of 1973, with a Not Observed rating. They would not have to be doing it again, since he cleared their base in May of 1972. So poor General Staudt, who had retired the year before was pushing to sugar coat a OETR that was already three months old. Must have gone senile. Judging from Hodges "recollection" as stated by CBS, he has obviously gone senile, as well.
I see a new adventure show. Captain Dan and Wesley Clark.
