WASHINGTON, Sept. 9 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie today announced that author Peggy Noonan will join the staff of the Republican National Committee as Senior Advisor to the Chairman beginning this week.

"Peggy Noonan is a Republican legend. I'm grateful she's agreed to lend her vast talents to the Republican National Committee for the last months of this election cycle. Peggy is one of the most gifted writers of our generation. It's an honor to have her on our team as we work to deliver our message in the coming crucial months of the election," said RNC Chairman Ed Gillespie.

A month ago Noonan took a leave of absence from her work as a contributing editor and columnist for the Wall Street Journal to work as an unpaid volunteer in the 2004 election effort. Since then she has worked on the Republican National Convention in New York.

She is the author of bestselling books and has been a frequent guest on television news shows. Her essays have appeared in Forbes, the Readers Digest and the New York Times. Noonan was a special assistant to President Ronald Reagan, working with him on many of his speeches, and was speechwriter to Vice President George H.W. Bush when he ran for president.

She is a member of the board of the Manhattan Institute, and lives in Brooklyn, N.Y. She is the author, most recently, of "A Heart, A Cross, And A Flag: America Today," (Wall Street Journal Books), a collection of her essays following the attack on American on September 11, 2001. Her first book, "What I Saw at the Revolution: A Political Life in the Reagan Era," was published in 1990. "Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness" (1994), "On Speaking Well" (1998), "The Case Against Hillary Clinton" (2000) and "When Character Was King" (2001), all followed.

Before entering the Reagan White House, Noonan was a producer at CBS News in New York. She was an adjunct professor of journalism at New York University.

I heard her being interviewed on some talk radio show the other day and she admitted she had a hand in the RNC video "The Pitch."

Well, it was an excellent piece, best I've seen coming out of this campaign season, so having her onboard is a great idea!

This will be reported something like "BUSH CAMPAIGN IN FREEFALL, NO ONE THERE KNOWS WHAT TO DO." from the DNC and camp Kerry.

Agreed. That video was excellent, and I'm glad Peggy is getting involved. Good news on an otherwise frustrating and infuriating day.

I wonder how loud "Forhead" and "Swamp Creature" will yell about journalists being affiliated with political parties?

She is a terrific writer. I do hope, however, that she is kept off radio and TV. Her voice and manner of speaking are very annoying. Peg sounds like she's whining. Yet...her writing in superb. Good for the RNC!

I'll second that. She has a certain grace.

Okay, I admit it, it's really the hooters.

Peggy speaks beautifully. I could listen to her speak all day. Her speech is velvet soft and her words are like poetry.

RNC/Bush campaign adds women to its team while Kerry "campaign" throws its women under the bus and brings in more white men.

Pass It On!

Peggy Noonan will be a great asset in that role.

She is a true conservative, but her style has a soft edge to it that I think appeals far beyond what some of us bombthrowers can accomplish. ;-)

Not to overstate it though. She knows how to put the hammer down when necessary. LOL...
